Good kids' shows?

We don't have cable so we don't get any channels, but we get DVDs for ourselves and DS from netflix. Are there any really good kid's shows that I don't know about, being from the US? I'm kind of picky about what DS watches. (He's 2 and a half.) So far it's mostly Sesame Street, Thomas, Oswald, and Charlie and Lola. I don't like Dora, Diego, or Handy Manny much (not because there's anything wrong with them, they just bug me. Something about the constant lights and music and high pitched annoying little voices ) So something age appropriate and a little...calmer, I guess. Any good picks?

Oh yes Timmy Time is good.

If we are talking old ones I liked Playdays. And Come Outside (still shown) - neither ever released on DVD, though Come Outside is on a few of the CBeebies compilation DVDs.

accessorizequeen · 11/01/2010 17:31

Kipper's nice, quite calm!

BertieBotts · 11/01/2010 17:32

Oh Pablo the Little Red Fox is a lovely one - I think it's beautiful and the theme tune is quite cool

Waybaloo? It's a love/hate kind of show I think though. I can't stand it, but DS & DH enjoy it!

nomorecake · 11/01/2010 19:16

favourites with my 2yo that i actually dont find annoying are Peppa Pig, Timmy Time, Humf, chuggington (trains), ben and holly's little kingdom (i think its called).

and come outside as someones mentioned.

CheerfulYank · 12/01/2010 01:44

Oh yes, I forgot about Kipper! DS has seen one episode of that numerous times (it's on a compilation DVD) and he really likes it. Also Chuggington sounds good; he loves trains. I'm going to youtube the others you've mentioned now. Thanks for the suggestions!

You could go for some of the older children's shows - they tend to be calmer and slower paced.

Perhaps The Clangers; Bagpuss; The Flumps; Ivor the Engine etc.

A lot of them have been released on DVD recently.

RoRoMommy · 12/01/2010 02:02

Peppa Pig
Bob the Builder
Wonder Pets
Fireman Sam
Roary the Racecar
Angelina Ballerina (oddly as DS is, well, an S! and 2.9yo)

woodforthetrees · 12/01/2010 21:17

DS is now 3.5....his faves have been (and most still are) from about 2.5 -(I've mentioned which channel they're on in case you need to know that for finding on DVD)

Peppa Pig - I still find him laughing properly out loud at this.
Ben and Holly (Nick jr) his current fave
Humf - I like this one as it's nice and gentle (on Nick Jr)
64 Zoo Lane
Show Me Show Me - cbeebies
Of course Tikkabilla until it disappeared from our screens (v sad day for DS!)...
HTH

CheerfulYank · 13/01/2010 03:34

This is really helpful, thanks! I hope I don't come across as too precious or anything. I just think, he's so small, and it'd be nice for him to be exposed to more gentle things while he's still so little.

Are you in the US? I don't think Sesame Street is on any Uk station.

I like Big Barn Farm, personally.

CheerfulYank · 13/01/2010 03:55

Yeah, I'm American. Big Barn Farm sounds good, DS loves farms, especially when the farmers drive "trat-tors".

I must admit I was a bit freaked out at the US-dubbed Bob the Builder and Thomas The Tank Engine. We had to switch over to Spongebob.

Not sure if this will work in the US, but there are quite a few 1 minute clips on the BBC website: www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/bigbarnfarm/watch/bigbarnfarmclips/

There is a tractor clip there.

CheerfulYank · 13/01/2010 15:58

Awesome, thanks! Our Bob the Builder DVDs are dubbed but the Thomas episodes we have are the originals.
