So You Think You Can Dance

Two observations

Cat Deeley's gone all Hollywood scary-skinny .

And Arlene Phillips - I'm not sure the best response to being fired for being an oldie is to have some super-budget facial work done. She looks like she just sat down on something tubular.

OP posts:

I think Cat Deeley looks absolutely gorgeous! And check out her shoes!!

thelunar66 · 09/01/2010 19:25

Hope this week's programme is better than last weeks.

Lets see some dancing, not just 'talking heads' and weeping.

pinkteddy · 09/01/2010 21:14

I enjoyed tonight. No idea who will go though - standard is very high.

Agree with bruxeur, Cat is scarily skinny. Her face looked strange too, not sure if that is just cos she's so thin. Thought Arlene looked fine though apart from the eye shadow!

Who went out? I missed the results show, had to go to work

Loved Tommy and partners (name escapes me) dance on the bench!

Wastwinsetandpearls · 10/01/2010 00:17

The girl in the jive partnership went.

mynameis · 10/01/2010 00:45

Did a bloke go too?

Wastwinsetandpearls · 10/01/2010 00:52

no

mynameis · 10/01/2010 03:37

Found it on Digital spy, Chris went.

oxocube · 10/01/2010 08:37

Am confused now!! Anyway, what did we think of Louise Rednapp as a judge. I wasn't that impressed TBH. She seemed very much an Alesha Dixon - succesful in her own right but didn't seem as qualified as the other judges, esp when they got into technicalities.

muppetgirl · 10/01/2010 08:52

yes I loved her 'you did well with the dance considering you are both short, people with longer legs and arms have it easier' (or words to that effect) Arlene (can't help saying her name without an ironic Australian accent...) thought this was all rubbish.

So the boy and girl left now have to form a new couple together and have a week to gel whilst the others are moving into 3/4weeks together? Is this fair?

Cisco (sisco?) is interesting all seems to say is A-may-zing, Louise is the young totty and quite up her arse with the 'oh yes I'm looking for a dancer I could take on tour...' when's the last time she had a record out let alone tour?!?!

I like Arlene but this seems an altogether 'cheaper' show. Will watch next week to see if it gets better when you get to know the contestants more.

I do, however, really like the fact Arlene is an older woman who is still at the top of her game and is employed and appearing on prime time telly. Good on her, hope I'm still working when I'm her age on not just on the scrapheap as so many older people are these days.

oxocube · 10/01/2010 09:06

I also think I heard LR saying that the jive was a dance popular in the 30's.

pinkteddy · 10/01/2010 11:26

Yes oxo, I was when I heard that too!

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 10/01/2010 13:23

this is a supremely beautiful man , is it not?

Wastwinsetandpearls · 10/01/2010 14:10

Did a boy leave as well, missed that. I was wondering how it was going to work

mynameis · 10/01/2010 16:21

According to the website:

For the first two shows the dancers will be paired up by the Production Team, at their discretion, based on height and dancing ability.

From show three onwards, each week the dancers will swap dancing partners amongst them. Partners will be selected via a random draw. The draw will be independently verified.

BonjourIvressedeNoel tes he is very easy on the eye

madwomanintheattic · 10/01/2010 16:32

i'm a total addict of sytycd, and sytycd canada. i knew they were starting sytycd uk, but haven't managed to track it down, is it on i-player or something?

have seen some totally amazing dancers over the last few series. had no idea louise thingy was going to be a judge. over here it is usually v respected choreographers/ ex-dancers etc (as well as old nige obv) - although cat (weirdly) has been presenting the original... no idea why. i assume she came as a job lot with nigel for some reason... they aren't usually short of tall skinny blondes...

bruffin · 10/01/2010 16:45

Jive did start 1930's/40s with the jitterbug

pinkteddy · 10/01/2010 16:45

madwoman, just click on home on bonjour's link, the last episode is there.

madwomanintheattic · 10/01/2010 16:52

oh, thanks pink - i assumed it was just a pic and hadn't bothered! (tis not yet 10am here, and can only deal with hot totty after lunch )

pinkteddy · 10/01/2010 17:25

You're welcome! Bruffin, everything I've ever read says that the jive (as we know it) originated in the 2nd World War but I'm prepared to stand corrected!

pinkteddy · 10/01/2010 17:25

I mean during the 2WW!

muppetgirl · 10/01/2010 18:44

What did you all think of 'My-parents-own-Italia-Conti Hayley?

Mamazon · 10/01/2010 18:46

i tink that with parents like that if she has to go in a tv show to get noticed then she cvant be very good.

muppetgirl · 10/01/2010 18:59

That's what dh and I were thinking. With all those contacts surely if you haven't made then you're not going to?

Isn't dacing like the other arts in that it's all about contacts?

mynameis · 18/01/2010 15:45

Did no one watch this week

Why was the lovely Alastair in the bottom two?
