If you go to 851 BBC Audio (on Virgin, Sky might be different) you can watch what is showing on BBC whenever BBC Scotland are showing shite.

There are other numbers for BBC2 and ITV so you dont have to watch the regional progs if you dont want to. I always do this when the football is on and during Children in Need. That way you get to see all the proper studio bits instead of watching Jackie Bird.

Yes, I did wonder what proper entertainment must be going on when Jackie Bird was on.

I only have freeview now. Not sure that'll work though.

Although i do admit that when I was in England I used to tune in to BBC Scotland on Sky for hogmanay. (a bit anyway).
