Like a lot of parents, Lester Adams works long hours to secure a better life for his children than he had when he was young. He works very, very long hours in fact - about 80 a week. He doesn't even switch off when he is home. And he often sleeps in the office at the children's indoor play centre he owns - just in case there's a break-in, he explains. But you do wonder. In this film, his two children, Ross, aged eight, and Maddie, 12, "kidnap" him in the hope they can force him to be a proper dad again. It's a risky strategy: being a workaholic, Lester might angrily refuse to take time off; plus, it's possible that having got his undivided attention, the family might not like it. But instead Lester listens to their heartfelt pleas, wells up and agrees to spend more time with them. There are lots of tearful, emotional moments as he attempts to reconnect with his family but, even so, it's remarkable how little he struggles with his ten days of cold turkey.
