Kathyis12feethighandbites · 07/12/2009 19:40

next Sun.
enjoyed it too.

MarsLady · 07/12/2009 20:02

It wasn't as good as the book... wait! I didn't like the book.

Sorry to rain on the parade ladies.

paisleyleaf · 07/12/2009 20:21

I did quite like the book. The program was just as I'd imagined the characters - but it did sort of skim stuff so it all seems to happen very fast. But I guess they have to for it. Shame though, it's missing a lot of humour. Especially with Gilbert and his wife.

glasjam · 07/12/2009 20:37

I thought it was great - enjoyed the book and enjoyed this adaptation. Queenie was a little "softer" than I'd imagined but Hortense was played perfectly. The interiors and 1940s settings were brilliantly recreated.

Really made me think what it must have been like to arrive in this "small island" from Jamaica - a shock on so many fronts I imagine.

streakybacon · 08/12/2009 08:20

I haven't seen it yet but have recorded it.

Is there anything in it that wouldn't be suitable for an 11 year old (graphic sex scenes etc)? I want us to watch it for his WW2 history stuff.

tiredemma · 08/12/2009 08:25

I LOVED the book- might watch it on Iplayer today.

fishie · 08/12/2009 08:28

i didn't like the book either. A Levy could have done so much better, lousy plotting.

candycanesonthexmastree · 08/12/2009 09:24

there is one sex scene of them completely naked him on top of queenie but you cant see anything of their anatomy - well maybe a bit of bum no boobs though .
that was the best bit

SofaKingCloseToChristmas · 12/12/2009 19:17

Bugger.

I forgot it was starting. Will iplayer tonight then sky+ the rest.

SofaKingCloseToChristmas · 12/12/2009 19:19

Is it a two parter? Can't series link tomorrows episode.

notyummy · 12/12/2009 19:26

Yep. 2 parter. First was last sunday.

I thought it was good. DH liked it more than the book.

Agree Hortense is just right.
