Horrible Histories

How hilarious is this??? - just discovered it with DSs on CBBC / IPLAYER.

Very clever (taking a bit of influence from Monty Python methinks). I love the fact that it doesn't 'dumb down' and it had me laughing in a way i haven't for ages at a sketch show (poss since the fast show).

Sooo - either it's very funny or i have a very juvenile sense of humour.....

Is it based on the books? I haven't seen it but I love the Horrible History books. And Horrible Science - I am absolutely certain I got an A at GCSE science because of these books.

they are fab! strange i was about to start a thread on them... we love the historical wife swaps... and the great songs.... all 3 of ours regularly give us a rendition of Divorced Beheaded and Died... in the car!!!
Fantastic and very very well written!

we love them as much as kiddies.... they're on cbbc in the morning at the moment and dh regularly stands at the doorway on his way out to work transfixed by it!!!

surely best thing on the telly at the moment for the kiddies (and parents!!!)

My favourite is the King boy band- think it is George- Born To Rule Over You. Hilarious.
We are big fans of Divorced, Beheaded...as well.
I use them in history lessons at work....

Now am I being a wuss (that should be a subject of its own perhaps?) - but I won't let my 5 nearly 6 year old watch this even though he's caught a bit of it and thought it funny. I just thought that the some of the historical stuff was a bit too "horrible" for him to be exposed to yet (you know talk of beheadings, burning at the stake etc.) What age are your children who are watching and enjoying this?

I do sometimes fret a little that some of these programmes are aiming a little too cleverly at the adults. All the references that only an adult can get IYSWIM?

My two are 6&8 glasjam. They love it and i would have done at that age too.

I do like the way it doesn't talk down to children and the fact that it has all the 'horrible' bits in is their way of drawing kids in and it seems to work.

Must admit the Henry VIII 'this is your life' was a bit near the knuckle though .

my 3 are 8, 5 and 3!!!!

we're at that awkward stage where older two enjloy cbeebies... large family, charlie lola etc... but like cbbc too... the 3 yr old just slots in unfortunately... she does a great rendition of the Gorgeous Georgian Lady song!!!

... and the 3yr olds recognition of historical ages tudors / victorians /georgians is very good!!! Has been known to shout divorced beheaded and died when spotting anything tudorish (namely pics of henry viii)

I love love love stupid deaths, we all love teh divorced beheaded song and ds and I once sang it going round Hampton Court

Fab programme, one we sit and watch together

My son is nearly 6 and I let him watch it. The only sketch I've had qualms about was the making-candles-out-of-Christians one - because I then had to explain what a Christian is and then why he made candles out of them and it was just a bit too gruesome, and I know he didn't have any understanding of the religious context at all and won't for years, really.

I just think it is hilarious. My favourite is the Helen of Troy sketch, and the 4 Georges too. DS is completely switched on to history for the moment and I can't help thinking that's a great thing.

my two (7 and nearly 10) love it. DS been reading the books for a long time, DD is getting into them as a result of the programme - and getting a free horrible geography in with National Geographic for kids.
