Red Riding anyone watching it this time round?

Didn't manage to see it first time. Blown away by the quality of writing, directing and the ensemble cast. Best thing I've seen on TV for a long time. Dying to read the books now. Anyone read them?

It is worth watching, but its very, VERY dark and really quite hard to watch in places.
