Is anyone else watching this? A really amazing and heartbreaking story for her mum and aunts. What a selfish swine of a man to do that to them. I wonder if they would feel better not have knowing he had another family who he loved while they were suffering.

If anyone doubts how important childhood experiences are, they only have to watch this programme. It is so sad seeing how emotional they were 70 years later, about this bastard who abandoned them.

DH and I were just talking about that. They probably would have been able to cope better had they found that he had come to no good, but what they found was still better than not knowing IMO.

I just don't know how he could just forget his family. Even if he had sent them money every now and then anonymously it would have been something. He could have afforded it, it didn't look as though his second family were living in poverty.

I wonder how his second set of children felt when they found out. Was he a good Dad to them, or were they not surprised that he was capable of something like that?

It made me cry. What a horrible horrible man. I wonder what his other children in Australia think? It must be hard for them as they have memories of him that must be destroyed by knowing the kind of man he actually was.

When it said at the end that the sisters had contacted their half siblings I did wonder what their version of him was.

Every series there are duds and then the occasional gem - last time it was Jerry Springer and I think this series it is this one.

I found it fascinating. It must have been terribly painful for all of those involved (imagaine the shock for his children in Aus) but it seemed her mother and aunts really needed to know. And there was a note at the end saying that they had all got in touch with each other after filming finished.

I thought the legal historian woman made a good case for why people committed the crime of bigamy - divorce seemed way beyond the means of ordinary folk. But he was still a selfish bastard of the highest order - those poor little girls living a slummy existence in Toxteth during the war. Awful.

Yeah that was a good show. I'm not surprised the half-siblings didn't want to be on the show. What can they say really? they can't trash him now if they never knew him as anything other than a great Dad, and that would hurt kim's mum and aunts. But it is their truth.

I found out something quite dramatic about my grandfather a few years ago and it really knocked me sideways for a while.. I was very upset for the young man that he was then, 80 years before I was born, 20 before my MUM was born, it still upset me a surprising amout......

I reckon he sodded them all off to Australia because he had a third wife somewhere and the game was about to be up.

What a fucker. I feel very sorry for his Australian children - horrible thing to find out for both sets of children, really.

I hope someone nicely told his sisters what he did, too.

On a lighter note the idea of Samantha from Sex and the City turning up unannounced on people's doorsteps in Derbyshire and Durham made me smile.

I have no interest in either SATC or Kim Cattrall but I was utterly rivetted by her family story. Only watched as couldn't be bothered to do anything else!

I think it's not that unusual what that bloke did, the difference is that today they usually get divorced first because divorce is not impossible as it was then.

I was impressed by quite how beautiful she is - in SATC I never thought her beautiful at all, but in this I kept on being struck by her beauty. Is this the result of botox?

I thought that too, franke. I especially liked the way she had to properly intriduce herself to one of the aunties...I bet she didn't expect that!

Great episode. Quite harrowing, and she came off very sympathetically.

I have a major crush on her, even more so after watching this.

Don't think she's had botox, she's got plenty of lines, which I really admire her for. She looked less 'hard faced' than she did as Samantha, maybe less make-up /less glammed up? She did look lovely.

I'd love to know how her mum and sisters managed to get out of the Liverpool slums - they all seemed quite well-to-do now, there's a story there in itself. Imagine bringing up 3 little girls with no furniture!

It was fascinating. I thought she came over very well.

It was particularly interesting for me as my grandfather did exactly the same thing. He left a wife and 6 children in France and came to the UK and married my grandmother and had 5 children with her and never again contacted or told anyone about his French family.

My sister nad I only found out when we started researching our family history. We managed to contact our family in France and it was heartbreaking to hear their stories. Even though it wasn't us that behaved so terribly we couldn't help but feel tainted by his behaviour.

Tragic story. I found it more moving that the ones with WW2 horrors, as, in this case it was all one man's personal decision to do what he did. With the WW2 stories, it is matters beyond that person's ancestors' control that lead to their tales.

KC looked so much prettier in "RL" than she ever did in SATC.
