I thought Ben came across as a bit wishy-washy basically sucking up to James whilst saying something else to Ed.

I really liked this programme, but do think that Ben kind of sat in the middle and tried to placate both James and Ed. However, perhaps this is what was required to get them thru it, a big punch up in the middle of Antartica would have been no good to anyone.

i just watched this - was really good - when they said at end what next what did ben say though when he started blubbing?

he said 'family'

i have l;oved thios show. i have big crushes on ben and james but james ios such a dick!

he is so selfish and stubborn and horrible! just because he is a reckless fool who endangers his own life he thinks they all should be! he was so unpleasant to ed! and the bloke had really looked after him!

I think James did come across badly but all three were under tremendous pressure. That sort of environment no doubt brings out extreme behaviour. I'm sure he isn't a nob really.

I'm rather hoping that Ed will get a bit of a media career out of this, although for the sake of his nearest and dearest perhaps as the New Media-Friendly Face Of Medicine rather than Extreme Adventurer.

Well having had a look at the book blurbs and covers it seems as if Ed Coates never existed....

Was/is Ed a ob/gynaecologist - he seemed the only sane one at the end and put up with so much cr&p. As for JC, did he get the equivalent of mountain fever, thinking himself invincible and stoic when in fact he was a complete prat and a danger to himself and others.

Do we know the outcome of the injuries ? Interview with Marina Fogle in MOS yesterday says baby due December and Bev had a baby girl (wonder if she was named after a West Country resort too) a couple of months ago - maybe she is a m'netter, who knows ..... mgith be interesting to invite her on for discussion.

DP has been watching this every week -we put bets on before it starts as to how far in to the programme Ben Fogle will blub.

Hes very emotional isn't he? Not helped I guess by the extreme tiredness and exhaustion. He'll be a gibbering wreck when his baby arrives

i felt really sorry for ed-he spent a good chunk of his resttime tending to james's feet and james was SO horrible to him.

and the other thing-reading that interiew about how nice ben is to his wife-bringing hr gifts and spoiling her. it's not bloody fair is it? not only is he yummily handsome but sweet as well.[sulks chilldishly]

It is interesting isn't it, that maybe he lives for the achievement of the moment yet doesn't allow himself time to reflect. Certainly the anticipation proved more elating than the reality. That first adrenalkine-charged draft of the book would have been very interesting , probably fairly cathartic.

Also have a soft spot for Ben. He comes across as such a big girls blouse but FFS - he rowed across the Atlantic and skiied to the South pole without bloody winging - what a man!
