I want to switch off, it is so realistic and painful, you know its going to end badly, have switched on mumsnet so I can detach.

Sarah Harding? - now I know why dh wanted to record it

noddyholder · 15/07/2009 10:19

I really enjoyed it but it was grim and so real

angelene · 15/07/2009 10:34

Total copout at the end though, I was thinking 'don't make them top themselves, don't make them top themselves' for the last 15 mins and they took the easy way out - far more difficult to get all the characters to stick around.

I'm also getting a bit bloody fed up with the ThisLifeShakyCameraworkTM which is just annoying.

Not bad all told, bloody depressing.

noddyholder · 15/07/2009 10:38

I just get mega excited when tv offers something other than reality BS

squeaver · 15/07/2009 10:38

Dh andI had a bit of a bet going about who was going to throw themselves off a building. I won.

Sunshinemummy · 15/07/2009 12:28

Wonderful acting (apart from Sarah Harding) but terribly cliched and stereotyped. The lovely man was obviously going to lose his job. And I was just waiting for the banker to get the coke out. Disappointing imo.

noddyholder · 15/07/2009 13:07

I think all the cliches and stereotypes kind of reinforced that that is how it is.I suppose it made it accessible to the masses. My mum for one can never believe a banker/doc/solicitor etc would ever take drugs for example so sometimes good for people like her to see it!

RenagadeMum · 15/07/2009 13:09

Had to stop watching 15 mins before end as didn't want to see too much tragedy for the poor nice family. So well acted. will watch end when feeling jollier

Sarah H was awful, like some Conti school 1st year.

angelene · 15/07/2009 13:27

Sarah H looked like she had won that part in a raffle.

TwoIfBySea · 15/07/2009 14:24

I stopped watching this too, I actually found it quite stressful to watch as I was getting so anxious. It was almost as though they weren't actors and there can be a thing as so much bad news.

Great drama, just too soon and too close to what is going on right now.

Sunshinemummy · 15/07/2009 14:41

There is a real boys culture in parts of the City but there are also lots of family men who work long hard hours but go home to happy families. I knew they'd show the banker as the first sort though as that's how everyone wants to see them.

jujumaman · 15/07/2009 14:59

I thought it was dreadfully cliched

Poor but happy working man. Tick.

Poor but happy wife who senses wanting a bigger house is wrong. Tick.

Banker who literally wanks, is estranged from his daughter ("I just want a father who cares" - yeeuch) and snorts coke. Tick.

Dodgy salesman who has threesomes, a plastic girlfriend and sells his old schoolfriend up the river. Tick.

Blonde banker who gets kit off before seeing error of her ways. Tick.

Aagh. It was awful. And so simplistic. Did the credit crunch happen because some mortgage salesmen from Watford sold mortgages to people who didn't think to read the small print? Oh, I hated it

raspberrytart · 15/07/2009 16:44

I missed the end of this,I saw the saleseman going into the big house where the dark haired woman lived.
Can someone tell me what happened next? Please

JackieNo · 15/07/2009 17:10

It was a bit simplistic - but great acting. Heard on the radio yesterday (can't find a 'proper' source for the story) that Sarah Harding's going to leave Girls Aloud to concentrate on her acting .

verygreenlawn · 15/07/2009 17:14

It was cliched, but I thought the performances shone through. Anna MM is always fabulous, I loved her in Poppy Shakespeare.

The banker character was a bit much - did we really have to have him wanking away to understand he was a wanker? Crude in every sense of the word.

I had fun though identifying the locations - I spotted The Galleria in Hatfield and the roof of the Harlequin Centre in Watford (sad I know).

Sunshinemummy · 15/07/2009 17:19

Anna MM is fab. Saw her on stage at the National as Lyra in His Dark Materials and she was great.

verygreenlawn · 15/07/2009 17:28

Raspberrytart, I don't think you missed much at the end - you just saw the mortgage salesman going into someone's house and trying to flog them solar panels because he really really cared about the environment.

And the wanker/banker killed himself, but I think that was just before the very end?

raspberrytart · 15/07/2009 18:01

Cheers yes I thought the salesman would be flogging gas or leccy.

HerHonesty · 16/07/2009 21:02

yes it was horribly cliched but also very compelling - and an awful lot better than most of the other drivel on the tv at the mo.. made me scared though...

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/07/2009 10:04

finally watched it on sky +

i thought it was very good - and so true to life

all i can say is silly couple - never sign something without reading it

surely they must have relised that it would go up more than £30 a month

sarah H just cant act!!!
