I'm so disappointed, I was really looking forward to this, had read all the interviews with Samantha Morton, thought it would be a harrowing but intelligent drama.

But it's just so slow, I gave up half way through to watch a Marilyn Monroe documentary, came back and she is in a blinkin cemetery looking at a deer, now is it just me or was that already used in The Queen.

Thankfully DH will come in soon to hijack the tv for match of the day and I will be released.

I agree, it is all rather odd and very very slow. Disappointing.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 17/05/2009 22:09

i am really loving it - in an odd way

relate strongly to the feelings of introspection and isolation Samantha is portraying

i think it is amazing

Meglet · 17/05/2009 22:10

I meant to tape it but the digital hard drive thingy is playing up so I'm not sure I'll be able to record it on 4+1. Bugger.

abraid · 17/05/2009 22:15

I think it's very good. Poor little girl.

rookiemater · 17/05/2009 22:15

Ah see PYBF I knew someone would come along and say that because the critics were raving about it. Will go to bed soon...

lots of accurate subtleties

Meglet · 17/05/2009 22:23

My friend was put in a childrens home as a teenager as her parents didn't want to know her. It was shit, she had everything stolen. I don't think she ever forgave her mum.

Digital recorder still won't work so I'll watch for a bit. But am feeling a bit today so I might not watch for long.

BONKERZ · 17/05/2009 22:34

this was recorded in march at my step daughters school and the church is where she was baptised! i kept looking at the girls jumper thinking i know that logo! LMAO

EarlyAdopter · 17/05/2009 22:38

I think really poignant but have onyl watched 30 mins

all these meetings and no one LOOKs at her or answers her qs
or cuddles her

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 17/05/2009 22:39

no one quizzes her silence

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 17/05/2009 22:50
Sad
rachaelsara · 17/05/2009 22:53

Thank goodness. In a way.

juneybean · 17/05/2009 22:54

I can see the point it's trying to get across but that whole fight between the STAFF?! was ridiculous

rachaelsara · 17/05/2009 22:55

At least the staff have noticed!

juneybean · 17/05/2009 23:05

What an utterly boring ending?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 17/05/2009 23:07

i must be alone in my opinion here

ending had me sobbing at her sighs

abraid · 17/05/2009 23:09

I missed the beginning and don't understand why her mother won't let her live with her?

amazonianwoman · 17/05/2009 23:27

I thought it was unbelievably harrowing. I'm in bits! I couldn't even explain to DH why I was crying (out loud) I found it so upsetting.

I missed the beginning too. Why was she there? Why was she not receiving any counselling?

yes amazonion 'harrowing' is right

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 18/05/2009 06:35

I watched it too. Once I'd stopped crying, I crept into my DDs bed and cuddled her, and thanked God for what we have.

Heartbreaking.

PuppyMonkey · 18/05/2009 08:33

Amazionian et al, I'm glad it wasn't just me. For some reason, i was bawling my eyes out throughiout the whole thing. I kept trying to explain to DP why, but I couldn't even get the words out. It was just that little girl and no-one wanting her. It almost made me want to ring up there and then and become a foster parent.

It was all filmed in Nottingham near me - I even used to use that bus stop the girls were waiting at. I found the acting so naturalistic, it was amazing. It was like a documentary.

Nancy66 · 18/05/2009 08:51

I thought it was good and well told - think you could tell it was her directorial debut though as it was a bit self indulgent and pretentious in places: all those lingering shots of light fittings etc...

the kid that played Lucy was great. She'd pretty much already given up on life aged 11.

abraid · 18/05/2009 09:11

Someone please tell me why the mother wouldn't let her own daughter stay with her? That was the worst bit for me.

I missed the beginning.

Nancy66 · 18/05/2009 09:32

abraid - the mother was barely in it and you didn't miss any key piece of information. She lived with the father who beat her.

The mother just couldn't be arsed looking after her kid.
