Ok I admit I haven't seen it.

Yes, me!
Don't think I can bring myself to watch it. I like Martin Clunes but Reggie Perrin will always be Leonard Rossiter to me.

TsarChasm · 23/04/2009 10:03

Thank goodness it's not just me.

I suspect many people will be a bit young to have seen it the first time. But Leonard Rossiter was so brilliant. Even now an old Rising Damp can make me laugh and laugh.

What next? Remake Fawlty Towers?

I was listening to a review of the new Reggie Perrin on R4 yesterday. They didn't rate it, because it was something that was so set in its time. Things have changed too much now to draw parallels.

I don't think I'll even try to watch it - the original is still very clear in my memory, even after all this time. I just don't think it's right, when something was a classic, and unique, to redo it. They'll either stick to closely, which is pointless, or write something vaguely "inspired by" the original, which is irritating...

will watch as i like martin clunes but often they cant remake things

like minder remade was crap - and i liked the daz man but he just wasnt the same as georlge cole and dennis waterman

but will watch/sky+ friday night

Seems so lazy to remake a classic series rather than commissioning something new and original. I definitely won't be watching the new version - just seems so wrong!

southeastastra · 23/04/2009 13:46

that's what they said on front row bellabelly, agree with them too.

lazy and you it won't be half as good.

southeastastra · 23/04/2009 13:46

sorry stray 'you'

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 23/04/2009 13:49

It won't be super, smashing or great

I didn't get where I am today by remaking classic TV sitcoms rather than using my imagination to come up with something new!

TsarChasm · 23/04/2009 17:08

Lol at Crunch

I didn't get where I am today by wasting time on MN when I ought to be doing other things.

Oh actually, I did
