I didn't want to crash the other Wire thread because you were all getting technical!

I've been recommended the wire to watch. Is it the first series thats on BBC2 now? I've been recording it for 5 weeks but haven't got round to watching it yet. I wanted to find out if it was series 1 before starting.

So, is it series 1?
is it worth investing my time in?
watched half the first episode and was confused and a bit bored - is it one of those ones that gets better when the characters establish themselves?

Thanks in advance

yes, it's worth watching! and it definitely gets better - don't give up! it is confusing at first and you have to really concentrate. I sometimes have the subtitles on - this helps understand what's going on

Can anyone explain why BBC 2 are screening this series at long past my bedtime on consecutive week nights? I thought this was meant to be the best TV series ever made? I've just got back from a weeks holiday and discovered that I have missed virtually all of it!

it's frustrating - I just videoed it and watched it a day behind. I understand the DVD box sets are pretty inexpensive, if that's any good for you

They have been showing the episodes on consecutive nights as the story lines are so intertwined and complex that one a week would simply lose everyone. If I were you I would get the DVD's (they are not expensive) and watch them at your leisure.

help (and spolier alert)!

please someone explain what was happening with McNulty at the end of season 1? he was on a boat - I know he was obv not going to do well after the conv with Rawls "where don't you want to go?", but I couldn't work out the boat? musy have missed something several episodes back

littlerach · 18/04/2009 13:16

He had said that he wouldn't ever want to work on boat patrol, I think.

The Wire is brilliant,we are rewatching it.

Several episodes before, McNulty was talking to Lester about how he got chucked out of Homicide. Lester said that Rawls has said to him, where don't you want to go? Lester thought that Rawls was being friendly and helping so he said that he didn't want to go to the pawn shop unit. That's where he ended up

So Lester said to McNulty, if you ever get asked (and you will get asked, because you are you) where you don't want to go, keep your mouth shut.

So when Rawls says, where don't you want to go, to McNulty, we see it happen, just what Lester said. We assume that Mcnulty didn't say anything, but I think at some point, Bunk had mentioned to Rawls that McNulty gets seasick.
