If you don't know, and don't ever intend to watch the whole series, go and read it on Wikipedia now.

And then go WTF???

And then go W....T.... F???

The final episode was broadcast on April 1st. Coincidence?

Be thankful for the ending we got in the UK version. It may not have been perfect but at least it wasn't that...

Nooooooooo!

KayHarkerIsPlayingWithMitchell · 03/04/2009 15:25

What the crap?

Did they just trawl all the fanfic forums to come up with that?

Oh my bleeping bleep that's... that's..

SoupDreggon · 03/04/2009 15:27

PMSL!

SoupDreggon · 03/04/2009 15:27

Mind you, I never made up my mind about the ending of the UK version.

UnquietDad · 03/04/2009 15:28

"And then I woke up and it was all a dream."

It was written by Y4!

OMG
a complete travesty

it's like one of those orange film adverts with those silly wankers who listen to film pitches

you couldn't make it up

KayHarkerIsPlayingWithMitchell · 03/04/2009 19:02

I'm still , I can't quite digest it.

I mean, I enjoy ridiculous RTD style fanwankery and in-jokes as much as the next sad fan, but I think every single one of those ideas was a 'fan theory' before the reveal at the end of the UK series.

The UK one wasn't quite the perfect ending, but it was pretty damn close, and I'd rather have debatable ambiguity than what reads like some bizarre cross-over fic written by a 14 year old.

gizmo · 03/04/2009 20:20

This, from the nation that gave us The West Wing and The Wire?

Was this a job opportunity screenwriter, do we think?

BitOfFunnyBunny · 03/04/2009 20:35

Yeah, the YTS must have written it...what garbage Xmas Angry

I will watch it though, just to snort derisively...

Ohforfoxsake · 03/04/2009 20:43

NOOOOOOOOO!

ROFL

JackieNo · 03/04/2009 20:45

Gizmo - yes, but also, let's not forget, the nation that gave us Fallon Colby being abducted by aliens and Bobby Ewing emerging from the shower to the revelation that Pam had dreamed an entire 22-part series of a prime-time TV show, with incidental music, credits and all.

There was also at least one other well-known US drama from the 90s which ended with the revelation that the whole thing was (probably) imagined by someone. I'm not saying what as I don't want to ruin it for anyone who may be watching it or going to, but... I'll just say "hospital" and "snowglobe" and people who remember will know what I mean.

Hmm, suspicious that it was aired on April Fools Day?

UnquietDad · 03/04/2009 23:38

It is. But that is the real ending.

NoBiggy · 03/04/2009 23:53

Oh!

Longtalljosie · 05/04/2009 09:00

That is the silliest thing I've ever read, ever.

Mind you, they probably weren't comfortable with the fact that suicide features in the original ending.

There's this story I was told (which sounds true even if it isn't) where the US was considering re-making Porridge in the States back when it was new. The US execs sat down with the original writers, and said...

"There's one thing that bothers us. Your main character is a criminal... is there any way he could have been the victim of a miscarriage of justice?"

badgermonkey · 05/04/2009 09:38

Waaaaaaaaaaah - that's so terrible it's almost brilliant. And it has taken away any desire to watch it. I have a strange obsession with watching terrible US adaptations of UK shows - they're like the school play version sometimes (Red Dwarf is a particularly egregious example).
