I have recorded the first episode from BBC2 the other night but haven't watched it yet. Is it similar to any other Series?

Yes its brilliant. Am going to use that well-worn phrase 'televisual crack'.

Yes it's utterly fabulous and no, it's not really similar to anything else on television. It's closer to reading a novel than watching a conventional series, but you need to stick with it for the first couple of episodes. The Baltimore street talk takes a while to get into but it's a bit like Shakespeare, you don't have a clue what they're talking about for the first couple of scenes and then something clicks in your brain and it all makes sense! After the first episode I thought "ho hum, what's so great about that, it's just standard police drama stuff", however by the time I'd watched 3 episodes or so I was completely hooked, having to ration myself to one (maybe two) episodes a night.

I too have heard work colleagues banging on about how good this is so when I saw there was to be a re-run from the beginning, I have set the Sky +. I watched the 1st episode last night and could quite happpily have turned it off half way through, I was bored. However, I stuck with it and will give the next couple a go too just to see if it will grow on me.

Not convinced yet......but watch this space......

Queeneagle - you do have to stick with it...it grows and grows...am actually really of anyone who can watch it all for the first time.

Yes, the first episode is wierd, but by episode 3 we were hooked.

It is fabulous.

I am recording these to sit and watch soon, and I am waiting for a nay-sayer because I don't think I've heard of anyone who doesn't think this is the best television ever. And I'm not sure I have room in my life for any more addictions.

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 02/04/2009 12:46

But what exactly is so great about it?

giantkatestacks · 02/04/2009 12:48

um...the writing, the storylines, the characters, the music...
