Mad Men What a fab show but the smoking....

I can't get used to people smoking on the telly all the time. It only goes to show how you get a custom to your own time frame. The boobs as well, I won't watch it with DH. I'm sure he's wishing I would get trussed up like that! I haven't watched the first series and haven't had time to order it on DVD. Still get the gist though! Can you help me with one thing who does the baby belong to really? I can guess but need it spelt out

i have no idea what show you're talkin about but I dont understand what smoking & boobs have to do with the plot of any show (if anything?!) if it's just a personal thing because you're a non smoker/flat-chested then pls give it a rest as those of us with adequate bosoms & a smokin habit hav had quite enuf of ppl tellin us wen & how we can flaunt our faults....if im completely wrong in my assault on your comment i apologise, but i fail to see how a TV programme could have that much to do with boobs & smokin you would feel the need to mention it in a thread title.....?!

there's lots of smoking because it is set in the early 60's, it was the norm then

It is satirical, isn't it? Slightly exaggerating boobs and fags to show society then...I wish I'd fllowed it properly, but I only caught one or two.

starbear- dh and are are watching the first series to catch up, as we watched the first one of season 2 and really liked it. I think the baby is Peggy's, after she slept with Pete Campbell (the brill creamed baby faced slightly creepy newly wed), just before he got married. But I haven't caught up yet...and i'm guessing, because at the point i am at in series 1 she is getting noticeably bigger, and comments are being made...

Yes, Peggy and Pete's. One night stand in the office. She had baby at end of series one, then shock horror, is being brought up by her sister it seems and not adopted after all.

The boobs and the smoking are the best bits of the show. Can't even begin to think why the smoking would bother you especially?

Back off the best show on tv at the moment. 'Twas great last night not as good as series one though so far IMO

After a thread on here I bought a fabulous bra that gives a Mad Men cleavage. Ugly as sin but makes your boobs look amazing under a sweater. DH is delighted.[;)] (I draw the line at taking up smoking again, though.)

The whole sweater girl/dior/hour glass figure look of the late 50's /early 60's is fab- I SOO want to be joan, she looks amazing. Certainly better than the skinny look that epitomised the rest latter part of the 60's. I just really like the style of the whole show.
We are just getting up to the last ep of series 1- it is so good, we're not sure how we missed it first time round!

We had to stop watching the first series as DH had just given up smoking and they made it look too good

elle23 Sorry you've got the wrong end of the stick. I've haven't got a problem with the smoking, it's just how noticeable it is because even in hard cop shows no one smokes. If they do it not that sexy long draw and blow curls around. Joan boobs are a amazing just like the girls in Star Trek The costumes were designed to over do the boob area. I'm not flat chested and just don't have 1960's boobs. I going to get the bra that Babbity put a link too. The clothes are fabulous but with my middle age spread it wouldn't work unless I go to the gym every day! I haven't remembered all the character names yet but the head of the Creative Team yummy!

Ops! Also thanks for the update as I thought it was Peggy's Mum who was looking after the baby. I did guess right though it was the odd young looking one.
