The name of the programme is the name of the house the drama is set in.

It was set just before the war.

A girls goes to stay with a family and falls in love in one of 2 brothers.

Then the war happens and he goes to war and she ends up with the other brother.

Can remember it being set on the coast. Can remember her riding a bike along the cliff.

Think it was a tv drama in the 90's.

It's driving us mad!!!!

You're not thinking of Coming Home / Nancherrow are you? Featuring a v young Keira Knightley? Was based on the Rosamund Pilcher novels of the same name, set in Cornwall.

ChippyMinton · 10/02/2009 15:51

no, that's not the name of the house, is it?

steamedtreaclesponge · 10/02/2009 15:51

Sorry, x-post

The war, coast and bikes are obviously popular period drama ingredients!

McDreamy · 10/02/2009 15:53

Nancherrow - that's it I think

I think its Nancherrow too. It had loads of people in it before they were famous. Keira Knightley played the lead girl when she was young, then when she was older Emily Mortimer played her. And Paul Bettany played the brother she was in love with first. If memory serves, he went off to war and came back blind. He couldn't cope with it, and killed himself. Does that sound about right?

Nancherrow

Flambards? Think it was more like the 70s though. It was barmy.

missorinoco · 10/02/2009 21:26

in coming home she ends up with the local gp though, not a brother. the family she stayed with had 2 girls and a boy, who was the chap who goes blind in the film.

(haven't read/seen this for years, i really need to get out more........)

The Camomile Lawn! I adored it!!!! REPEAT PLEASE!!!

wintera · 10/02/2009 22:00

You can watch the Camomile Lawn at the moment on virgin on demand if you have it Frumpygrumpy!

I just recently watched it and although I thought it was very good, I was a bit shocked at the fact it seemed quite alright for certain characters to have paedo tendencies. The Paul Eddington character specifically. Its mentioned quite a few times that he likes little girls, particularly putting his hand up their skirts and fondling them! Charming!!

At one point he says something about always liking little girls, and then the Jennifer Ehle character Calypso then asks him to be godfather to her baby when its born!

frumpygrumpy · 10/02/2009 22:21

Oooh thank you! Virgin on demand.......hmmm......not sure I have it, I'm Sky (and wouldn't have a clue if a demanding virgin slapped me on the bum )

Will watch out for Paul Eddington.......

McDreamy · 11/02/2009 13:51

Def nancherrow, need to watch it again though as it sounds like i haven't remembered the story quite right.
