Did anyone watch this last night? Can anyone explain why he was so underweight? He ate 2600 calories daily, compared with the average male requirement of 2500. The commentary said that as 2000 of these were from chocolate, it is no wonder he is 3 stone underweight.

I can see that it would make him very unhealthy and lead to poor muscle tone etc but can't see why it would make him thin.

Can anyone explain?

I agree, I was a bit confused last night.

Also, didn't seem that great to get the overweight lady to eat his diet for 5 days, she wouldn't lose any weight and it was not healthy and she could have loved it!

Thanks for replying. I agree. It didn't seem appropriate for reeducating someone's eating habits at all. It looked very incongrous when she cooked him a delicious vegetable wrap and he gave her a couple of sausage rolls.

I would imagine thatb it is because a lot of chocolate/sugar gives you dirroreah so he is not actually absorbing a lot of the calories he eats as they are passing through his digestive system too quickly.

I always end up watching this programme but I am at a loss how two people swapping their equally unhealthy diets for a week actually achieves.

blametheparents · 04/02/2009 14:26

Can I join your diet plan too? I plan to avoid anything except chocolate, just to make sure I lose maximum weight!

At the end yesteday the guy did look much healthier. He had only out on 9lb so I guess he was still underweight, but his skin looked brighter
The woman was doing really well too.
So perhaps it was the shock that kickstarted better eating habits for them.

Frasersmum123 · 04/02/2009 15:36

The diet swap thing always works every week, I hate the bit where they show them the food they eat in that big plastic tube!

fuckerForMyValentine · 04/02/2009 15:39

I think that big plastic tube full of food is a shocking waste when there are people starving in the world.

mrsgboring · 04/02/2009 15:42

Watched it for the first time last night and was appalled/mystified. I couldn't bear to see the end, though so don't really know what happened.

Do they ever actually help the two people involved to develop a healthy diet at any point? Also, do they check their health before participation? The man seemed to have major issues with appetite/swallowing that made me wonder if he had some kind of illness.

I only kept watching because his diet bears a resemblance to what pregnancy sickness and food aversions does to my diet and that was what made me wonder if he was actually ill.

AnyFuckerForAValentine · 04/02/2009 16:48

he certainly looked ill, his general health was appalling

and appeared to have strange obsessions eg. constantly sniffing his food before eating it, expressing great surprise at some really rather ordinary food such as a roast dinner like he genuinely had no idea what it can taste like. He also used to give food off his plate to his young daughter!!

he put 9lbs on (over 3 months though!) and clearly had a long way to go

Frasersmum123 · 04/02/2009 16:53

What made me laugh the most was when he sat down to breakfast and said how he realised cereal was easy to prepare - Duh!

AnyFuckerForAValentine · 04/02/2009 17:25

straaaaaange fella

Lulumama · 04/02/2009 17:27

yep, i noticed that too. had missed the first few minutes of the programme, so had not seen how they ate before

last series seemed more appropriate diet swaps, i.e smaller portions ,more fruit and veg etc than sausage rolls or chocolate

the overweight lady did look so much better, not just the weight loss, but more alive and happier.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/02/2009 22:31

chocolate is obv the way to go

normally the skinny person doesnt eat much and obv the larger person eats crap

so the swap is to show them how both dietsare crap

i have noticed that very rarely do either fat or skinny eat fruit or veg
