the free dvds with the news of the world

am watching the first one again now....I wish we had brilliant stuff like this on the TV all the time!

Chris is hysterical! I think John Simm gets better each time I watch him.

Sheesh. Another Country in the Telegraph, LOM in the NOTW... I'm going to have to start getting right-wing newspapers.

foxinsocks · 24/01/2009 20:51

lol you know you want to policy

luckily for us, dh buys them all so I get to pick and choose

papers are having to tart themselves to get sales!

the pita with the Screws is that you have to go to WH Smiths to get the dvds grrr

Guardian always has rubbish ones (IMO)

mileniwmffalcon · 24/01/2009 20:56

i really never got the fuss about this one, i thought it was formulaic and cheesy, the jokes were overdone and the coma/dream thing - the vauely interesting bit - disappears as the series goes on doesn't it? i think maybe you had to be there the first time round, and nostalgia glosses over the cracks. in fact i thought it was a boy thing too. i find john simm watchable in just about anything but couldn't watch this.

foxinsocks · 24/01/2009 20:56

yes, very disappointing. The Mail often has crap ones too (though they often do children's ones...they know their market!)

oh I loved it....but I do love a bit of escapist tv

thought the acting was great, there were one or two not so good episodes, but found it the most watchable thing on TV for years!

BitOfFun · 24/01/2009 20:59

I absolutely loved it

Boco · 24/01/2009 21:04

I missed the whole of life on mars, but loved ashes to ashes.

foxinsocks · 24/01/2009 21:05

oh boco, I will send you the dvds as I get them and watch them (they are free every week). Think you will LOVE it.

Oh thank you Fox, that would be brilliant. Now I've finished the wire i'm stuck for TV. Started deadwood, and although I am quite liking all the fucking cocksucking cunts stuff, I'm not really getting into it.

foxinsocks · 24/01/2009 21:13

ooh haven't seen that (deadwood)

yes, there is nowt on tv at the moment is there grr

Our TV doesn't really work as the aerial needs fixing so it's just dvds or you can make out a vague picture through a snowstorm, which is irritating, and in dark scenes you can't see anything and have to squint.

foxinsocks · 24/01/2009 21:18

the soundtrack to life on mars is great too. Shall I go on more about it when you haven't seen it lol?

what was the series of the wire like?

OP posts:
policywonk · 24/01/2009 21:18

Mad Men will be starting again soon...

Boco · 24/01/2009 21:19

The wire was FANTASTIC. Have you seen any of them? Loved 1 2 3 and 4, disappointed in 5 but it was still better than anything on TV.

foxinsocks · 24/01/2009 21:21

didn't realise mad men was coming back

no, I havaen't even seen the whole of one series of the wire...just never got round to it! Life on Mars was so perfect because it was on at 9pm before i started falling asleep on the couch

BitOfFun · 24/01/2009 21:33

Should I try and get hold of The Wire then? I could swap someone a full set of Soprano DVDs!

Boco · 24/01/2009 22:13

Oh definitely Bitoffun. I'd offer but i borrowed them all too and have given them back.

BexieID · 24/01/2009 22:19

I downloaded the 1st series of LOM and loved it so much that I bought both the 1st and 2nd series. Wasn't so keen on Ashes To Ashes though. It would be great if Sam was in it for one show. They never did find his body did they?

BitOfFun · 24/01/2009 22:41

Aren't they making another series of Ashes To Ashes?

BexieID · 24/01/2009 23:07

They are yes.

BitOfFun · 24/01/2009 23:23

Great! I preferred Life On Mars, but it gives me my Gene Hunt fix at least!
