here. She's an awful actress.

mankyscotslass · 18/01/2009 14:55

Seen that too. Maybe they are going after the male fanbase?

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/01/2009 14:58

dh has just said'oh no !' He says he heard that Lily Allen was a possible

mankyscotslass · 18/01/2009 15:00

I heard the Lily Allen rumour too.
I really thought a slightly older companion would have been a better balance, but it looks like they are going for the Hollyoaks look.

NewAmazingBeginning · 18/01/2009 15:00

What has she done?! In that pic she lokos nothing like her usual self - and it is not good.

paolosgirl · 18/01/2009 15:03

Oh dear me no. It just gets worse and worse. First Matthew thingie and now her. What ARE they doing? Have they got new writers or something???

mankyscotslass · 18/01/2009 15:05

She did Eastenders (Zoe Slater), the Bionic Woman in the States, and was in Merlin.

SaltireOShanter · 18/01/2009 15:05

They are obviously trying to appeal to the older teenage market. DH said they are trying to "hollywood" it, make it appear more glam.

OP posts:
paolosgirl · 18/01/2009 15:06

Wasn't she panned for her Bionic Woman role? And I don't think it was just down to a poor script!

siriusmew · 18/01/2009 15:11

Now I'm going to cry. A plank is less wooden than her. (and she's better looking than me)

UnquietDad · 18/01/2009 15:16

paolosgirl - yes, they have got a new team. I trust them, though - the new guy in charge is Steve Moffat who has written some of the best episodes of the last 4 years.

I wouldn't trust any companion rumours. But let's not forget, lots of people thought Billie Piper was going to be awful.

EBenes · 18/01/2009 15:22

Moffat already cast her or wrote for her anyway in that Jimmy Nesbitt Jekyll, so it's a definite possibility. She is a terrible actress. I hope it's Sally Sparrow instead.

paolosgirl · 18/01/2009 15:53

Yes, but Steve Moffat had talent available to him when he wrote these episodes. He's going to find it much harder with Matthew thingie and Zoe Slater.

CreativeZen · 18/01/2009 17:16

I do think they should try the two assistants format again. They did at one time have a male and a female assitant for Dr. Who and any love interest was between the assistants rather than between the assistant and the doctor. I think the assistant lusting after the Dr. scenario has been done now, so they should go for a completely different approach.

Oggsdog · 23/01/2009 07:39

Lady Christina de Souza

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2009 08:44

oh dear

SaltireOShanter · 23/01/2009 08:47

Looks like it might be right then!

OP posts:
mrshammond · 23/01/2009 08:57

It'll be alright as long as she doesn't snog David!!!

mankyscotslass · 23/01/2009 11:03

Also Lee Evans is to be in that special

KayHarkerIsNotAnAuthority · 23/01/2009 13:22

Really not at all worried, actually. She's in one special - there will be an older companion in one of the other specials (I'm holding out for Judi Dench, oh, the fun!).

It's not like she's going to be doing The Young Doctor Adventures with matt Smith in series 5. And if she is, I might revise my opinion. But I not nearly as horrified as I was when 11 was revealed.

disclaimer this calm response is probably due to seeing the publicity photos and getting a Tennant-fix. It's better than codeine...

KayHarkerIsNotAnAuthority · 23/01/2009 13:29

btw, is it just me, when I read or use the shortening 'the specials' that goes off humming 'this town...ahh-ahhh... is getting like a ghost town...ahh-ahhhh'

BlackEyedDogstar · 23/01/2009 13:44

I don't know if I trust Moffat as much as Uqd . I know his scripts are ingenious, very clever (Blink is one of my all time favourite modern DW's) intriguing wonderful stuff...But I've always assumed that the show's gob-smacking good looks and exhilarating pace and impressive musical score was russell t Davis's work.

I have become a complete fan of the show and I now fear with all these changes it's turning to SHiT.

skay · 23/01/2009 14:05

It's official.

Have a look at this:

meridian · 23/01/2009 14:15

a small something to smile about .. well it made me smile anyway...

Oggsdog · 23/01/2009 14:16

Damn you KayHarker - I'll have that song in my head all day now.
I used to love Fun Boy Three and fancied the pants off Terry Hall

I'm not worried about Michelle Ryan. She's okay. As long as they don't bring Sarah Jane Smith back into DW I'll give anyone a chance.

skay · 23/01/2009 14:21

Meridian - LOL
