I was mesmerised by his tangerine digits last night whilst watching the rather wonderful QI. It wasn't just me who noticed surely? It just looked so well, inappropriate. It's our Stephen Fry, ffs!

sorry having comuter troubles

SexOnFire · 10/01/2009 16:16

Are you so annoyed by his smugness you posted twice? . I really don't get the smugness, though and normally I have an extra sensitive smugness radar. He just makes me laugh, plus he made a very good documentary about being bipolar. Ha, got you there

I really like him, I don't find him too smug, I thought that was just the poshness of him...
I normally cannot stand posh smug gits, but I love love love Stephen.
His documentary about being bi-polar was excellent btw.

But to cut to the chase, no I have not nocticed his tangerine digits, will be on the lookout!

SexOnFire · 10/01/2009 16:22

Do watch out for them hippipotami, they were something else. I'm thinking new stylist?

I don't think he's smug: I think he's quite disarmingly honest and rather cute. I saw him once in a bookshop but I don't think I noticed any orange-ness about the hands then.

SenoraPostrophe · 10/01/2009 16:25

he's very patronising to alan on QI though, and often pretends to have a lot more understanding than he does about tech issues. (eg he thinks all software should be open source, because programmers, unlike writers, don't need to be paid presumably. I quite like him sometimes, but he is smug

Hassled · 10/01/2009 16:26

Someone I know who is bi-polar hated that documentary - apparently there are differing degrees of bi-polar and he focussed on people with the more extreme and less common type, which she felt did little to help the general public understand the condition.

But otherwise the man is a living legend. And I failed to spot tangerine digits but will pay closer attention next time. I'm trying to work out what the hell he'd been doing to get tangerine digits - if it was fake tan, presumably his face would have been orange as well?

SenoraPostrophe · 10/01/2009 16:27

(it was his attitude on qi that made me say he is smug btw

SexOnFire · 10/01/2009 16:28

Oh but SenoraPostrophe, Alan is obviously his willing bitch. Mr Fry (doesn't seem right to call him Stephen) does take the ribbing from the others in a very equanimous manner.

Hassled you raised a good point. But imvho, there is such a dearth of quality programming on matters of mental health that it was very refreshing to actually see the subject broadcast in such a sensitive and honest way.

But if Steven Fry is smug, don't you think that Alan Davies is equally guilty of inverse-smugness (ie he's quite pleased with himself for getting things wrong)? I think it's just part of their dynamic, Steven doesn't seem all that smug or patronising with anyone else.

daftpunk · 10/01/2009 16:35

alan davies is there for that reason bran...he plays the part well.

SenoraPostrophe · 10/01/2009 16:35

inverse bloody smugness.

SexOnFire · 10/01/2009 16:39

Has anyone ever seen an episode of QI where Alan doesn't come last?

And, btw Alan Davies, would you?

DD (8) was up with me last night as she shares a room with the baby and last night DS was very unsettled. She started watching QI with me. Lucky I shooed her out before the batman section .

Alan Davies? Bleugh!

Stephen Fry is a National Treasure, orange hands or not.

hippipotami · 10/01/2009 16:51

Fair point about the documentary hassled. I found it very interesting, but apart from suffering depression (and the extreme highs and lows I experienced as part of that) I have no direct experience of bi-polar.

I find his attitude to Alan Davies on QI a bit patronising at times but feel it is set up that way, so Alan is indeed 'the willign bitch'

Alan Davies, would I??? Not sure. Yes I think I would.

Pinner35 · 10/01/2009 21:22

Alan Davies......god yes! Have always had a soft spot for him. Supposed to be a right misery in RL though.
