I had not watched a Lynda La Plante before so thought I would give this a go but was sadly disappointed. Lots of macabre and salacious detail but pretty thin plot. Is this the norm ?

What a load of rubbish! Who was above suspicion - we knew who it was really early on!

I think maybe they cut loads out of the book maybe?

scampadoodle · 06/01/2009 13:34

I thought the guy who played the murderer just wasn't a good enough actor to carry the scenes at the end when he had to be really loopy. He sounded like Liam Gallagher on a bender.

DevilsAdvocaat · 06/01/2009 13:36

i quite liked it but kept thinking there should be a twist.

HumphreysCorner · 06/01/2009 13:38

I thought it would turn out he was just acting at being psycho and wasn't the murderer.

LIZS · 06/01/2009 13:43

Exactly - instead it was a poor man's Silence of the Lambs

It was all just a lot of mascara. did that woman never take her makeup off?

georgiemum · 07/01/2009 12:24

Her bottom and top lip colour didn't match.

What really annoyed me was when the sister Justine - horsewhipped the policeman then later hit Travis - why wasn't she arrested the manic!! Also did I miss something but what a coincidence that Sharon was friends with Louise but also happens to know the son's fiancé. All a bit far fetched and really it just annoyed me all together!! Also re Travis agree what's with the smudged mascara it is like she never showers! OK rant over - I know just a TV show. It is shame as I thought last one was quite good.

DarrellRivers · 07/01/2010 17:55

La Plante does normally have a 'prime suspect'
once they have located the PS, the race is then on to prove it
no twists

I think Kelly Reilly is gorgeous

RTKangaMummy · 07/01/2010 18:17

It really is a true story

LLP was on TV this week and she said that it really did happen in USA in 1940s and then a book was written of it that she read and then extended the story

if you google the name then you can see the real photos and autopsy report etc.

She did also say that she was surprized with the director that he didn't read the notes etc to know that it was based on true story

I have a feeling she also said the director hadn't even read her book

Lots of the book had to taken out of the tv drama ~ I think it would have been better to have made it 5 nights but with whole story in iyswim

strig · 07/01/2010 20:27

I am sure LLP book is much better. I love James Ellory's book the Black Dahlia which is based on the true story - would definitely recommend it is brilliant (although movie I didn't think was great). I am sure as you say if it had been five nights it might have filled out the story a bit for me. Usually love everything LLP!

I thought this was poo too, you found out the murderer at the end of the second episode out of three! And loads of the details seemed a bit pointless.

Fancied the main detective though (the man, not Kelly Reilly) which was the main reason I kept watching

diddl · 14/01/2010 08:51

Ciaran Hinds?
Loved him in Persuasion.

BrahmsThirdRacket · 15/01/2010 01:12

Yes that's him, and he was in 'Rome' as Caesar. Phwoar.
