I am (after possibly too many repeats of Grand Designs) beginning to fond he gets on my nerves. I am normally very tolerant but all this stuff about buildings having 'integrity' and 'being honest' etc is getting a bit much for me. However innovative, they are just bricks and mortar - well possibly in his case, wattle /daub, steel, twigs or any combination thereof, but the principle is the same.

Yeah, sometimes you just want somewhere to live!
Speaking as a designer myself (& a fairly anal one) I do find a lot of these pundits up their own arses

KatieScarlett2833 · 04/01/2009 12:32

Couldn't agree more. DH and I play Grand Design bingo when it's on. Double points for "Should have used an architect", "Space", "Integrity" or "Pastiche"

Niecie · 04/01/2009 12:38

Overuse of the word 'space' particularly gets to me - not just KMcC though.

Its a ROOM FGS. What is wrong with using the word 'room'!!!!

Niecie · 04/01/2009 12:38

Oh and I can't stand 'Wow factor' either which is rife in these sorts of programmes.

daftpunk · 04/01/2009 12:44

i agree msb; i love the show...but he can be annoying..

the best one is, "the room lacks identity" you imagine the room wanting to be johnny depp..

Podrick · 04/01/2009 12:47

Kev is a bit obsequious but not all bad imo. "Space" and "sexy" drive me nuts!

puppydetox · 04/01/2009 12:54

lol @space my mum started saying this when she was doing up her house and was reading too many design mags. it drives me up the wall. although having said that i move in arty circles and there's a context (e.g. exhibition spaces) where, despite trying really really hard, i can't find a suitable alternative. but yes, when applied to bog-standard houses it grates hugely.

vjg13 · 04/01/2009 14:11

Kevin is on my list of secret geeks you fancy but shouldn't shame on you finding him annoying

Podrick · 04/01/2009 14:16

I think he is quite camp though!

FunnyLittleFrog · 04/01/2009 14:23

Did anyone see the show where he went to Castleford and tried to 'save' the town with 'design'?!

Didn't work.

And he very annoyingly called it 'Cass' all the time like a local, which he very obviously is not.

MrsSeanBean · 04/01/2009 20:46

Oh yes the 'space' thing is very overdone and certainly adds to the annoyance.

annabelcaramel · 04/01/2009 20:48

Oh but he is lovely, and so intelligent. He speaks 7 languages you know. I love him. He can fill my space with integrity anytime

bluebump · 04/01/2009 20:54

I saw him at Bristol Airport once.

NotBigJustBolshy · 04/01/2009 20:58

Ah yes, Kevin McCould. Well, I definitely could. 7 languages, you say? That makes it all alot better. (Maybe he steers clear of the designer jargon in the other 6?)

MrsSeanBean · 04/01/2009 21:00

at typo in title. I was too embarassed about the other one to post a correction. Fear they may both be Freudian slips!

OP posts:
NotBigJustBolshy · 04/01/2009 21:03

Sorry, Mrs SB, I wasn't having a go - I just couldn't resist

puppydetox · 04/01/2009 21:10

lol @annabel. i think he's eminently, erm, forgivable

daftpunk · 05/01/2009 08:42

vjg13; how could you fancy him....

the geek i shouldn't fancy (but a bit of me does) is neil oliver from coast.....i could roll around in the sea with him for 5 minutes.
