She seems to think that 40 is old! I think she's odd(to be polite)at the best of times, but 40? old? pah!

Yes but she's in her early 20's isnt she? I imagine that if you start going through the menopause in your early twenties when it should happen to women 40+ then you do feel like that is old.

I thought 40 was ancient when I was in my twenties, now im not so sure

Give the girl a break she has life threatening cancer and 2 young boys

TsarChasm · 05/12/2008 10:45

40 is old though... when you're the right side of it.

When your not though (ie me) the goalposts move quite significantly about what is and isn't 'old'

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 05/12/2008 10:46

I know...she's 27. Don't like her one iota I'm afraid, but of course, I would not wish cancer on anyone, let alone a young mum.

I thought 35 was middle aged when I was 15, but now I'm knocking on door number 45, 75 is positively middle aged!!!

That's the spirit Solo. I'm right with you on that

stressedsanta · 05/12/2008 10:59

feel so bad for her must be awful

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 05/12/2008 11:04

Absolutely stressedsanta. Can't imagine what she is going through.

I remember when my work colleague had her 30th when I was 17. I thought she was waaay too old to be even going out and that she should be staying in because it was just wrong . Obviously at 33, I have changed my mind somewhat. What context did she say 40 was old though?

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 05/12/2008 11:26

She said that this(cancer)was something that 40 year olds go through. Also that she didn't expect to be going through this(took that to be menopause)until she was 40.

I would say it would be 50's onwards to expect the menopause, unfortunately cancer doesn't take age into account does it. She is VERY young to be going through this and I have a lot of sympathy for her. Isn't her mum only early 40's??

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 05/12/2008 11:36

Well Jade is 27, so she's likely to be in her mid 40's at least.

Just wiki'd her, she is 50. I must have been making assumptions that she'd had jade when she was quite young

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 05/12/2008 11:54

don't believe wikki

My DS put into wikki {as part of his IT project} that Spagetti grew on trees in the antarctic

So don't believe what wikki says

I saw the interview with Jade and felt she was very brave to talk about having smears

And if her publicity gets one woman to go for a smear test then that can only be a good thing

Especially a young woman in her 20s going for a smear after watching Jade on TV rather than thinking cancer is only for older women

I agree when I was in my 20s I thought 40 was ancient ~ I am now 42

.

suwoodolf · 05/12/2008 11:58

I wonder if she was sexually active from a young age- I was. I have had 6 monthly smears for the last 6.5 years! I read a thread recently about women not being entitled to smears until some ridiculous age in their 20's . A lot of women have had more than one child by then like Jade herself.

clayre · 05/12/2008 12:07

she was talking about the menopause and taking HRT when she was mentioning women in her 40's
