Anyone else planning to give it a go? I'm not sure, tbh, but will probably watch.

I've been looking forward to this for months. Branagh seems like excellent casting.
I love the Mankell books but they are a bit of an acquired taste: all that poor weather/crap food/bad coffee... I doubt the Swedish tourist board will reap huge benefits.

I thought I'd read one, but I only have vague memories of it, and they don't tie up with any of the stuff I can find on the books, so maybe it was by someone else.

Can't decide whether it was refreshing to watch something slow and well-shot, or whether I was just bored. Found the Wallander character very uncharismatic and irritating. And the fact that they were all in Sweden but spoke English ditto.

Yes, I've made up my mind. It was dull.

I've not read the books and yes it was a bit slow and predictable but I still enjoyed it. The Swedish version is on next week so will be interesting to see how that is.

Damn I missed it, I was going to give it ago. If its on this week, I'll check it out.

I loved it, but I am a Ken fan anyway. Thought casting was excellent, looked great too (landscapes I mean).

I thought it was ace, totally true to the spirit of the books. Which I guess lots of people would find kind of uneventful/dreary.

Skane is never so sunny in the novels!

DH taped this and has put in on tonight. I love a detective story but this is dreary, overacted crap imho....I'm so disappointed with Ken. He's pulled a couple of faces that just make think of the cliched impressions that John thingy does of him. Give me Rebus or Inspector Morse any day.

ChristmasPresence · 03/12/2008 16:11

ooh panto, he kept reminding me of that impressionist too!

I stil can't remember the bloody guy's name though. I blame the wine!

Watched it on Sunday night and kept thinking how different it would be if it was called 'Wattinger'. Instead of bleak Swedish landscapes and stubbly chins, lots of little behatted people walking around jerkily.

It was brilliant!!! I do love Ken anyway, but I thought he was superb in this, and the supporting cast was great. Beautifully shot, and I think that as a character, Wallander is very interesting. I didn't think the stories were particularly original, but I still loved the atmosphere and characters and was hooked from start to finish. I do hope the BBC commissions another series...
