We have decided to treat ourselves to one or the other but which one? Experiences or decent comparison sites would be handy.

Thanks

We have had Virgin for many years and are very happy with it.

do you have all the on demand stuff too and have you combined your broadband/phone line too?

Sky. Most definately Sky. Have had both, Virgin cannot comapare for price or service.

We had Virgin when we moved to an area that had cable last year and ditched Sky, as at the time they couldn't beat Virgin's package. After 3 months we cancelled our contract and went back to Sky. I missed Sky One, the record was ok but not as easy to use as Sky Plus, I found On Demand was not worth the effort - there was very little to watch. We had the medium broadband package which was slow, kept cutting out and we weren't supplied with a wireless router. Phone calls were expensive too.
This was 18 months ago though, so their packages and prices may have changed. However, you can now get Sky HD for £75, the broadband is free and you can get TV from £16 pm, I think.

We've got a virgin phone, broadband and tv package. Never had any probs. I personally prefer cable just because I don't want a dish on the front of the house, plus it doesn't get interference like a dish sometimes gets. At the moment we are loving the Virgin on demand feature and we use it all the time. Either to catch up on shows we have missed in the week or to discover shows we never watched first time round.

Plus the sky channels are now back on Virgin, as Rupert and Richard recently came to an agreement!

I think you just have to weigh up all your options and see which is best for you personally. My sister has always had Sky and loves it. To each his own, as they say!

Sky+ for us. We are on their see, speak, surf package. We are on the Family package for TV at £21 plus we pay £5 a month for our phone and £5 for a slightly better download rate.

I don't think there's a lot to choose between the two really. We have Virgin because the broadband is much better (because of the crap BT lines here cable is the only way we can have broadband without problems)

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/11/2008 21:49

sky for us

all sky channels except sport, free phone calls evening and weekend and braodband for £38

Sky just switched from Virgin back to sky

Virgin. Ondemand is worth paying any extra for. My DDs spend hours watching the on demand music videos.

virgin
oh ok to get sky, they said they would have to cut down a lovely mature tree!!

HeadFairy · 01/12/2008 18:01

V+ like sky plus but no dish, plus no evil Rupert Murdoch trashery near our house (ok so that's not entirely true because we have all the Sky channels which ultimately he gets paid for, but I'm not directly lining his pockets so ner!) Plus on demand is brill, love watching back issues of Father Ted and Ab Fab on Virgin ondemand. Plus we get Iplayer, plus it's a hard drive with all the recording capabilities of Sky+

Must admit quite impressed with Virgin at the moment. Had a problem on Friday, rang them up and they sorted it out, with no hanging on forever and rang us back later to make sure it was ok.
It went again Monday night and rang them at 9.45pm, this time the fault wasn't fixable and we had a new box before 9am the next day
They also rang us again a few days later to make sure it was okay.
Can't believe this customer service as when it was NTL you always had to wait for half an hour or more to get through and couldn't ring after 8pm.
We got Sky one back about 2 weeks ago.

Thank you - its seems about an even split so far. Will have a look at the packages they have got on offer on their websites.

thanks for all your comments
