Have you got a link? I love trying to spot tunes

nettie · 30/11/2008 12:30

Glad to know I'm not the only one, been bugging me too.

I'm sure some knowledgable person will be along to tell soon

MuchLessTiredNow · 30/11/2008 12:31

Lots of other singers did versions too. Isn't it Lou Reed or Leonard Cohen or someone who wrote it?

smartiejake · 30/11/2008 12:48

Leonard Cohen wrote the song Hallelluja but his recorded version is truly awful. The famous version of this song is sung by Jeff Buckley and I think that's the one used on the advert you are asking about, but my favourite is by Rufus Wainright who sung it on the soundtrack cd for "Shrek" Such a beautiful voice.

John Cale also did a version for Shrek. The one in the film is John Cale I believe but on the soundtrack its Rufus Wainwright. The version on that iplayer ad is definitely Jeff Buckley though.

wintera · 30/11/2008 14:25

Here is the John Cale version as featured in Shrek. Apparently the reason John Cale's version is not on the soundtrack is because he is not on the Dreamworks record label and Rufus Wainwright's version was.

Here is the advert which features the Jeff Buckley version.

Yeah the John Cale version is the one on the actual Shrek film but I still prefer the Rufus Wainright version. Love his voice.

I love Rufus Wainwright too Smartiejake. Think my favourite song of his is Poses. I like most versions of Hallelujah actually. The only one I haven't liked was the one used at the end of The OC one time. A woman was singing it. Really slow it was, didn't like it at all. Have no idea who it was though.

smartiejake · 30/11/2008 19:52

Have actually only just discovered him. Been on you tube alot today deciding which album to buy first. Will have a look at that song. ANy recomendations for a good album to start with?

wintera · 30/11/2008 21:22

My favourite albums of his are Poses and Want one and Want two. I think you can buy Want 1 and 2 as a double album now. They would be my recommendations anyway. Hope you enjoy them!!

MuchLessTiredNow · 30/11/2008 21:26

Of course!!! Rufus Wainwright! I love you all!!!! Thank you for sparing me from another sleepless night!

Muchlesstirednow - The one from the ad is Jeff Buckley though. Not Rufus Wainwright.
