It's a model for the Angel of the North sculpture by Anthony Gormley. It was in the Sunday Times today but I can't find the story on the website.

Squeaver you've spoilt my fun! They didn't say what it was in the Observer today and I was going to watch to find out. Will watch anyway to see the reaction..

squeaver · 16/11/2008 18:08

Shit, sorry!

I'd have preferred not to know too tbh. Bloody Sunday Times.

starmucks · 16/11/2008 18:10

Really!!! Though it was going to be some old Master. Wouldn't have put a valuation of £1m on the actual Angel of the North, let alone a model of it. Thanks

I feel cheated. Never normally watch the Antiques Roadshow but me and DP sat through the whole hour just to see what the old family heirloom worth £1m would be and whether the person who brought it in would still say that it has sentimental value and they'd never dream of selling it obviously (whilst secretly trying to work out the quickest route to the auction house!) and then it turned out to be the blooming angel of the north. Have I missed something or is that not actually an antique? How old does something have to be to be an antique?

I thought the point of the antiques roadshow was people bringing in things they've found at home and then seeing the look on their face when they find out how much it's worth. They may as well have just got a painting out of a gallery and said its worth £1m. Oh well, thats an hour of my life I'll never get back (and the ten minutes of my life spent writing this - really should get out more!)

agree tonight. i feel exactly the same way. it was such an anti-climax.

Furball · 17/11/2008 10:35

my Pil came for tea last night and insisted we watch this as they'd heard all about it etc.

What a let down, a) it's not an antique b) it's owned by the council c) who gives a shit?

funniest thing was we sat through all 'of that' for MIL to drop off at the crucial bit, so she missed nothing it anyway.

Ponders · 17/11/2008 10:36

It's not the actual Angel, it's one of a series of models he made before the actual one I think. And OK it belongs to the council, but they didn't know it was worth that much (or worth that much if someone would actually pay that much for it )
