I don't think I can watch this.

Hadn't realised Victoria Climbié was result of a similar thing. Apparently she was branded a witch by a local pastor in London in 2000 and so was tortured to death by her guardians.

Apparently this is becoming more of a problem in the UK too. What is going on. We need to do something. I very rarely get this worked up about anything!!!!

blametheparents · 13/11/2008 09:43

toobusytothink - I know what you mean, I rarely get too worked up about stuff, but this story has really touched me.
I have signed the petition and made a donation to help their work.

I didn't watch this. A couple of years ago I read an article, wish I could remember which magazine it was in so I could search for it, about this.

In it there were twin boys who would hang around the edges of the village that had thrown them out. To their mother they were something to be shamed of, in her mind they were dead. If they were seen they were chased and beaten, they wore rags, ate from the dump. They were four years old.

My dts were the same age at the time.

I couldn't have watched a programme about it. I am so glad it has been made and shown though as I can still remember the photos of those two little boys.

MadreInglese · 13/11/2008 13:47

OMG I watched this and bawled my eyes out

We have been talking about it at work this morning and are collecting old mobiles to send to raise money

see here

it's a small donation but hopefully can help a tiny bit

lovelysongbirdfliesaway · 13/11/2008 14:02

oh my god this was horrendous, i couldn;t sleep last night for having nightmares about this.
its the saddest thing ive seen on tv before

tiredsville · 13/11/2008 16:17

It is important that we don't only cry and despair over this, but do something about it. Mobiles, petitions, telling friends.

I agree tiredsville. It has made me angry as much as everything. Just don't want this thread to die away. Think at the mo though only people who saw the programme last night are looking at the thread rather than reading out of curiosity. Perhaps we could retitle it "is your dc a witch or wizard" and then people might "accidentally" read it.

NosfeRaahhTu · 13/11/2008 17:08

i didn't see it, but i anted to keep the thread going.
it sounds so awful

jenaegi · 13/11/2008 17:14

What is wrong with the world...

Vulgar · 13/11/2008 20:12

Yes, was truly horrified. i have signed the petition and are hunting out our old mobiles.

not much to help but let's keep this thread going. If everyone did just this, they could get somewhere.

tiredsville · 14/11/2008 11:23

Another thing girls, christmas is approaching and instead of recieving the usual tat from the IL's that you never want. Maybe suggest they donate to the stepping stones charity on your behalf, even if it's just a fiver.
