It's bugging me. Why does he sleep on a boat?

its all in the night garden though. onwards from hand doing circle thing, thats all inside the night garden.

furrycat · 10/11/2008 10:55

But it's a big place, the garden. Why no room for little Iggle piggle?

Not sure, but am I the only one to think he really looks like that attention seeking MP, Lembit Opik?

Its the chin, which goes to one side

ShowOfHands · 10/11/2008 10:58

Because he doesn't live there. It's the Night Garden. He goes there when he's asleep himself.

"Take the little sail down, light the little light, this is the way to the garden in the night..."

Divvy · 10/11/2008 10:59

how sad are we! lol

EyeballsintheSky · 10/11/2008 11:00

So he is representative of the child watching the programme? Hmm clever. And why do we never see the Wottingers? And wtf are the Haa Hoos for?

ShowOfHands · 10/11/2008 11:05

The Wottingers are republicans. They're in hiding.

The Haa Hoos have no discernible purpose.
I worry about the union issues ITNG. Makka Pakka is forced to clean faces and public transport for no money. And he lives in a cave. Poor OCDish bugger.

I watched 'In the Night Garden' by accident for the first time last year. I'd woken up very early with gastroenteritis, and didn't want to go back to bed, so I lay down on the couch to watch tv - and In the Night Garden was part way through when I switched on.

I had a bit of a temperature and was feeling decidedly peculiar because of the gastroenteritis, and added to all that, Night Garden felt decidedly wierd and unreal - and dh and I were hooked!!

For a while I was sky+-ing it so he could watch it in the evenings when he came home, and I can still sing all the songs.

Is it just me, or was someone on some serious recreational medication when they wrote MakkaPakka's and Iggle Piggle's songs? And why do the Tombliboos trousers fall down?

And how many of us know a little girl who is JUST like Upsy Daisy!

Divvy · 10/11/2008 11:23

I would have name changed with a shocking post like that!

Divvy · 10/11/2008 11:23
Wink
VanessaParody · 10/11/2008 11:24

It's very sinister. Iggle Piggle perilously cast adrift at sea in a tiny boat in the dark. But what did he do to be cast adrift eh?

sunnygirl1412 · 10/11/2008 11:26

I know, Divvy - I'm ashamed.

seeker · 10/11/2008 11:27

It's all Iggle Piggle's dream, isn't it? Well, that's what ds and I think. (Ds is 7, by the way, his ITNG addiction is a deadly secret between the two of us. And the whole of Mumsnet, obviously.

Divvy · 10/11/2008 12:03

You could use blackmail that to your advantage!

spicemonster · 10/11/2008 12:13

seeker - my nephew (8) is also suspiciously up on ITNG

I agree - I think it's all igglepiggle's dream. Which is a bit sad because that means his best friend isn't real.

seeker · 10/11/2008 12:15

We have a lovely time on Friday nights while dd and dp are at Scouts catching up with ITNG on Iplayer!

TheConstantIroner · 10/11/2008 12:25

Psst... my ds (7)also has a secret ITNG addiction. We've even have theme tune on mp3 player - I find it strangely relaxing.

santapaws · 10/11/2008 12:44

How come Makka Pakka is sooooo much smaller than IP or UD? I mean, hes tiny compared to them? Wots that about?

x

chamomilequeen · 10/11/2008 12:45

dunno but macca pacca obviously is agoraphobic

Sidge · 10/11/2008 12:47

I love ITNG. The music makes me feel all safe and warm and cosy. My girls and I love it.

I think IgglePiggle actually sleeps with UpsyDaisy but they can't show that so they pretend he leaves in his boat but I reckon he sneaks back in later once all the others have gone to sleep.

She's such a hussy.

sunnygirl1412 · 10/11/2008 12:49

Well they are always snogging, Sidge - I think you may be right!!

Wonder if UpsyDaisy will be having her own antenatal thread here!

PuppyMonkey · 10/11/2008 12:51

And apart from that pinky ponk milkshake drink they sometimes have, what and when do they eat?

scrappydappydoo · 10/11/2008 12:54

My theory on the wottingers is that they are caught in the credit crunch - they desperately want to move away from their neighbours the dysfunctional pontypines and out of the night garden neighbourhood with its dodgy characters but can't so they try and hide and keep to themselves except they can't even do that as they keep getting waved at and followed everywhere.
The hahoos are like that ball in 'the prisoner' - they look friendly enough but will absorb you if you try and escape..
Makka Paka is an ewok who had an accident trying to light his uff uff and subsequently develped ocd and banished himself to live as a hermit...

PuppyMonkey · 10/11/2008 13:07

So let me get this straight, Iggle Piggle is just the little person at the start dreaming...?

Why does he go in a boat when it seems he is going up into the sky? One would have thought a rocket would have been a more suitable vehicle. And quicker.

iwouldgoouttonight · 10/11/2008 14:32

I watched it with DS (2) the other day and at the end when everyone went to sleep and Iggle Piggle was back in his boat on his own we both started crying! [disclaimer: heavily pregnant and very hormonal at the minute]. Its just so sad - the whole of the night garden is just a figment of Iggle Piggle's imagination and doesn't really exist, and his best friend isn't real either. And the poor lad has to sleep on a boat in the middle of a choppy sea with no apparent friends or family in real life.

I might have to stop watching - its too much for me...
