I can't believe I just watched a doctor doing CPR to Nelly the Elephant on Casualty! I know it's not real but they have advisors and people do take things away from that show.

Please, no one here do that, it doesn't work! If you must use a song then use "Staying Alive" it's been proven to be the only song that actually has the right beat to do CPR to.

I was also told that last week on my early years first aid course.

The actual rate is 100 per minute. To be honest I don't think I would be in the mood to be singing nelly the elephant anyway.

Staying Alive only works if the person singing it is using the correct tempo- do crash trolleys have metronomes theses days? If so, then as long as the thing is set to 100bpm, then what's the problem with Nelly?

Nelly is the wrong tempo. We've been discouraging it for years. There is a big campaign in America called "Staying Alive" based on a study that found Staying Alive is the only song that works.

In hospitals they're used to doing it so don't need songs, I think if we were singing during CPR we'd get told about it. I've never needed a song in 15 years and my last two exams I hadn't had chance to practice CPR so hadn't done it for awhile, I still did it spot on.
