big band week is generally good as swing is pretty easy to be ok at. disco is always rubbish, to create drama that singers previously given good comments have a rubbish week - otherwise the judges will run out of things to say. they're set up to fail!

Just posting myself back on this thread...when will the ghastly Daniel's manipulative ways be thwarted?

I doubt he's trying to manipulate anybody, the producers and dannii have probably told him in no uncertain terms how to stay in the competition for as long as possible. I wonder what colour his hair will be this week...

i hope Disco will be his undoing, Cyteen. I can't think of anything that he could put his pub singer karaoke spin on, in a disco stylee. But the public are full of people who are easily swayed by a good sob story, regardless of talent, so we shall see.

I'm not sure i can see Eoghan doing disco either, much as i liked him , i think he is only good for Westloifey ballads, and his rendition of L.O.V.E was painful.

And being a sad geek, i have been unable to find any other year that they have done disco, apart from last year.

I think they did Disco week in Pop Idol 2. Last year, Simon Cowell said "Disco week has been an absolute disaster." - why would they do it again this year if they didn't want the contestants to fail? I am thinking too hard about this!

It's fun, though. But I really don't get the point of deliberately sabotaging the acts, either. And surely, once they win, they will stick to one type of music anyway? Leona is being groomed to be a Mariah warbler, and Leon is Michael Buble-lite.

Still it is quite amusing to try to guess what they will sing..I do wish they could be a bit more original with the choices, but i think performing rights and copyright issues have a lot to do with the songs they pick.

they deliberately sabotage the acts for disco week as then they can have the full drama this week of "that was ghastly/terrible/etc" then next week they can have the drama of "simon said they were ghastly/terrible last week, now the pressure's really on, they have only this chance, and they want it really badly" etc. If they do well every week it gets a bit tiresome over the 2 months that they're on telly. And who can name a decent, non-cheesy disco song?!
