I'm researching x factor/ pop idol for work at the moment and just noticed something quite odd.

YOutube vids are taking ages to load....

bumbling · 17/10/2008 16:47

Are they all the same girl TDWP and aren't 2 and 3 the same UK girl Diana or whatever her name is. Or do you mean they all look alike? No 1 doesn't sing very well though!

MerlinsBeard · 17/10/2008 16:47

she may have watched it and thought she could sing it too ?

Hodgins · 17/10/2008 16:57

1 - That's weirdly similar!

2 - What kind of cool job have you got!?

suspookywoo · 17/10/2008 17:03

I love Diana (and Laura)and she is waaaay better than the other girl.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 17/10/2008 17:08

It's just odd that that was last year, and she was popular, so now there's a british girl doing almost the same in the same outfit.

Hodgins not cool, I'm trying to get together an article about exploitation from shows such as this, raised hopes etc. Not nearly as fun as it sounds.

I suppose it could be a coincidence, or it could mean that the 17 year old Diana is not the naive young thing we assume, and has actually researched what she thinks will be popular. Although it is probably more likely that the X factor production team have much more input into styling and song choice than we are led to believe, and have encouraged Diana to fit into a particuar archetype which has worked for the format in the past, and will fit into their marketing ideas for the record company's Next Big Thing. Which kind of fits with the angle TDWP is approaching this from, do you think?

One of the guys did Hallelujah on American Idol in the last series - she may have copied him as it went down really well and he was highly praised for it.

Have Googled - it was Jason Castro - here's the vid (fast forward through the chat!):

misdee · 17/10/2008 20:16

halleljah has had a massive revival of late, have heard it being played loads over the last year on many radio stations and used in tv clips etc etc. its a fab song.

i love diana, but am not sure the british public will like here that much. during pop idol (i think?) there was a girl with an unusual quirky voice, who i loved who wasnt overly popular.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/10/2008 20:21

but facially those girls look the same.

i think regardelss of talent people are chosen based on a) whether they 'fit' with the idea of who the producers are looking for and b) SOB STORY.

Divvy · 17/10/2008 20:24

very odd, indeed!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2008 16:07

well found

she annoys me as waves her hands about too much

hollyandnoah · 19/10/2008 14:53

aw i love jeff buckley! Maybe Diana liked her, based herself on her a little.. a lot. But they do seem too similar.
I cant see the third one though

childrenofthecornsilk · 19/10/2008 14:57

She annoys me as she's too studenty and playing on being quirky. Put some shoes on for god's sake!

hollyandnoah · 19/10/2008 15:00

www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAg5ZOZfVLo&feature=related another one.. (sorry if this was your third)

hollyandnoah · 19/10/2008 15:02

jeez that was the first one, im losing my mind. I cant find laura though lol! ahh but yes. It is strange!

WayneAteASlob · 19/10/2008 15:03
