I felt sorry a bit for Jarek (only saw the last 15 mins).

The British builder was the pits

expatinscotland · 17/10/2008 11:39

How could they shout at Jarek like that! Those people were bastards.

Sorry, but I'd take the Polish dudes anyday over that Terry cowboy.

expatinscotland · 17/10/2008 11:43

he didn't wear glasses, but he fits your description otherwise.

council were investigating his work after he'd finished.

meanwhile, the other couple royally fucked over jarek.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm · 17/10/2008 11:43

The people that employes jarek were scum bags and I hope they see that programme and cringe.
Ridiculous really, I've had a brit builder just like the one on tv last night, total tosser, and also brit builders from a replutable co who were brilliant. \I know people who have been left in the lurch by polish builders and plently who have had an excellent experience

PerkinWarbeck · 17/10/2008 11:44

If that rather horrid couple had actually paid Jarek a fair price, then it's likely that he would have been able to complete the work properly. I think it's telling that the electrician who saw his work immediately hired him to work on his own house.

As for the British guy, just doesn't cover it.

pookamoo · 17/10/2008 11:45

I thought that, Southeastastra! Basically, they seemed to say "you can't win" ! I just hoped that the two customers watched the programme. And I was glad Jarek got the other job in the end.
DH said "why do all the wives in this programme look slightly pissed off?"
He was right! Jarek's wife, the wife who gave him the job, the wives in Poland, the wife of the electrician at the end... !
I felt really sorry for Jarek and I thought his job was WAY better than Terry's ! Terry said he was proud of his job and it was top quality... he hadn't even cleaned the windows, and the render was coming off! He got paid so much AND he went and did other jobs when he'd promised he wouldn't!!

BetteNoire · 17/10/2008 11:45

I'd hire Jarek.
The other bloke was a shonky cowboy.

cremolafoam · 17/10/2008 11:48

oh this had the cringe factor all right.

if only jarek had just told her it was going to be £16.000 in the first place.
Unbearable that they made no money out of it and had to listen to that abuse from vile couple. Had to laugh though whe the whole family trooped through the passageway just to ask
'when will it be dry???' and then reversed out again. Why did they even need to know that?

Ah dear it was good.lol

WilyWombat · 17/10/2008 11:49

I felt very sorry for Jarek he seemed like a nice guy but even though he did a good job there is no way a British builder could compete with a team who worked for nothing. At the end of the day the OBJECTIVE is to make a profit he hadnt paid his rent for some time, most of us have mortgages which we need to pay at LEAST. His clients were FOUL.

The British builder was apalling but he DID have some unexpected problems and im afraid the cost of these SHOULD be bourne by the client. Hubby and his mate were on the phone discussing how AWFUL the pebble dash was (ignoring the fact that pebble dash just SHOULDNT be happening in this day and age anway unless you have had a COMPLETE taste bypass) His client seemed like a nice chap.

But the bottom line is these clients HAD NO ONE BUT THEMSELVE TO BLAME.

Did they get these builders on referral?

Had they seen their work?

Had they asked to at least see photos of their work?

Did they ask to see references from previous clients?

As far as I could make out they had a meeting in their living room, only one of the two clients had a written quote, made their decison TOTALLY based on price. COMPLETE F*CKWITS - would you agree to give any other person thousands of your money without having ANY information about them. OF COURSE NOT!

cremolafoam · 17/10/2008 11:49

English bloke was Alfy Doolittle

FAQ · 17/10/2008 11:52

wasn't round Northamptonshire way was it (have a lovely friend called Terry - who's a builder, has taken over his dad's business.....) (actually I'm sure it wasn't - Terry isn't a cowboy - and he cleans up after himself

WilyWombat · 17/10/2008 11:53

What was AMAZING was Terry seemed to THINK he had done a good job. There is NO WAY anyone who saw the end result would employ him.

Witchka · 17/10/2008 16:04

I thought Terry looked like he knew he'd done a rubbish job but was just saying it was fine. I was shouting at the telly for the poor man who employed him to get some balls and shout at him, but he was a really nice bloke.

The couple who employed Jarek were vile.

Rindercella · 17/10/2008 17:18

What amazed me about Terry is that he knew he was being filmed, so you'd have thought he would've made a decent job of it!

The couple who employed Jarek were appalling. Especially the husband, who proved himself to be a complete and utter twunt, thinking it was ok to speak to someone like that. Dickhead.

Stefka · 17/10/2008 19:25

I wish that it had been the other way around and that the nice man had employed Jarek and that that vile couple had been stuck with Terry.
