It was filmed mostly around where I live. My dd's friends all got Steve Coogan's autograph when their street was filmed.
Only watched it for the scenery at first, but am finding it's v entertaining as well. Fresh, well written and acted.

a reply!
only saw the latter half, but it did seem well acted. fingers crossed

Did you see Caroline Aherne in a cameo role?

That estate agent where Bernadette works is at the bottom of our road and sold us our house! The excitement is killing me!

Racers · 15/10/2008 21:25

Ooo Elasticwoman, I'm from round your way - nearby anyway (same name without the 'bridge' ), though moved further north 15 years ago!

It is fun spotting locations (and 'Early Doors' actors!)

PestoFangsLookGoodOnMeMonster · 15/10/2008 21:27

I'm waiting for the policemen from Early Doors to make an appearance. They were my favourite characters

Elasticwoman · 15/10/2008 21:30

Racers, did you notice how the canal location suddenly changed when Bernard Hill and grandson were walking down talking about how the split was not Joe's fault?

Racers · 15/10/2008 21:36

Actually I did think there was something a bit odd, but was half MNing and although I visit family (who all live in the area), I don't get a lot of time to mooch around like I did when I lived there (moved when I was 19), so I'm not certain..!

PestoFangsLookGoodOnMeMonster · 21/10/2008 21:06

YAY!! Just spotted one of the policemen making speech at Gamblers Anyonymous

PestoFangsLookGoodOnMeMonster · 21/10/2008 21:09

There's Winnie the cleaner from Early Doors too!

Theresa · 22/10/2008 14:10

lovely programme, both me and dh sniffed our way through it! We loved Early Doors and felt we were the only ones on the planet to watch it and laughed at all of them popping up in this. Where was caroline aherne?

OrmIrian · 22/10/2008 14:11

Sobbed my eyes out last night.

Really lovely.

PestoFangsLookGoodOnMeMonster · 22/10/2008 21:06

Caroline was the barmaid in the second episode. She gave Bing a lift home when he was bladdered.

countPINKCHICKula · 22/10/2008 21:14

Fantastic!..sobbed last night..and dp laughed when last week i said i kept thinking about 'grandad' dying as he kept clutching his chest i just knew something was going to happen...so where was it filmed?..i cried in every episode i think as it reminded me of where my grandad grew up and when joe was sat talking with him..all the stories etc..it made me remember sitting with my grandad and chatting for hours on end, but feeling so sad that i dont remember half of his lvoely stories..he deserves an award for this show (craig cash) and the actors were fantastic too (love bernard!, Steve was excellent, normally only used to him in comedy!)

Theresa · 22/10/2008 22:06

missed caroline, dont remember him getting a lift home, may have had a little snooze I think!

Elasticwoman · 22/10/2008 22:11

Count - it was filmed in my village and neighbouring town! Joe Crosby ran past my house to the war memorial to catch the bus when he was bunking off to visit Grandad in hospital.

I nearly wet myself with excitement!

twentypence · 09/01/2009 01:51

My mum made me a recording of this and brought it over - and I thought "here we go Steve Coogan" but I persisted because the canal was were we went on holiday and I've just watched the whole thing in floods of tears.

Largely caused by being ill and not being able to go on holiday and mum and dad have taken ds instead.

Honest.
