Its official!! Russell Brand is a nice guy. He fell for this GMTV good samaritan stunt!

Did anyone else see this? Last week GMTV set up various situations of people in distress to see if anyone would come to their aid. Here are the results, you can watch the footage here -

It made me very sad that 100s of people walked past 2 separate children in Bluewater who were in distress because I guess they were too scared to go up to them and ask if they were okay. The children were acting and it was to make a point. Very sad.

I also find it very sad about people not helping children but I can see why they don't. My husband Mark, feels like he would never be able to help a child in the street. One day we were in our local Asda and a young girl was crying in the aisle, she had obviously lost her Mum. Mark spotted her first but came and got me as he said he couldn't approach her in case someone got the wrong idea. A few minutes later the Mum appeared in a state and the situation was sorted but I have never forgotten it and it makes me so sad to think that my Husband, who is a really loving and wonderful Dad to our daughter, felt like he couldn't get involved at all.

I was in the supermarket once (toy aisle) and saw a little boy (about 3) very distressed and looking around as if he was lost. I kept my distance but watched him for a while, no sign of any parents anywhere.

After about 5 mins I walked over to him and said "are you lost sweetheart?" Thinking I would take him to customer services.

A whole family at this point raced around the corner and his mother snatched him right away from me snarling "we KNEW where he was, we sent him to look at the toys"

I had my own ds with me at the time and wished i'd never bothered, but what do you do? I couldn't stand there all day watching out for him and didn't want to leave him there crying.

Oh darling Russell. I do wonder if he thought it was an opportunity to get his end away though

I'm genuinely shocked that no one stopped to help the little girl though Can everyone not just have a word with their DH/DPs and let them know that they should go and help? It wouldn't occur to my DH that people might think he was a weirdo.

I think an adult should always approach a child needing help and if they are questioned, well they can take it. Better that than leaving a child in distress.

That's just changed my opinion of Russell Brand.

I once fainted on the street in Camden. Nice waitress from a cafe came running out, picked me up, talked soothingly and sat me down with a pot of tea. I was VERY grateful. I see plenty of muggings round there, just sheer luck the nice woman got to me before someone half-inched my bag.

Oh thats terrible. Bunch of bastards! You were only trying to help!

I remember my nephew going missing once when I was shopping with my sister. We were packing the bags up and he was sat on one of those rides they always have in supermarkets. It was right near the till we were at. He was there for ages waiting for one of us to put the 50p in and then suddenly he was gone. Just like that. I have never been so scared in all my life. We searched all round the supermarket but couldn't find him. Then we went outside and he was with 2 old ladies who were looking after him as he was in tears! We were so relieved and thankful to these ladies. He got a big ice cream after that to help him get over the ordeal! God that was when he was about 3, he is now 15!!

i do think though that doing this in london awas tupid.
when DH lost ds3 for 20 minutes( rememebr? was foudn outside a tatoo shop!)
the WHOle town stopped to help!
the car park was shut, they did the store to streo cb radio thing.
a phlanx of dads stood at all exits of the shopping mall.
was fabbo.

Unlike in ToysRUs a few months ago when I told a staff member I had lost my little boy and he looked blankly at me before walking off.

Two weeks ago I lost DS2 in there again but a staff member who had already helped me find something stayed with DD while I looked for him. DS1 ran towards me, refusing to stay with her, cue more stress!

Re - Carmenere, years ago I would have thought the same but then I remember things like that episode of Dead Ringers when John Culshaw was dressed as Ozzy Osborne and was serving customers in a chemist and out of the blue Elvis Costello walked in to buy toothpaste or something. I also once saw something on Richard and Judy where Mike Maclean was interviewing people inside Forbidden Planet and Jonathan Ross walked in to buy comics!

I regularly listen to Jonathan Ross's Saturday radio show and he quite often mentions seeing Russell Brand being ferried about in a limo all over London so its probably just a coincidence. Although I do think it helped that she was a young pretty blonde woman!!

dd ran off in dunnes a few months back.

i went into the changing room to try something on and left the kids with dp, dd went round the corner of an aisle and when he got to where she'd been she was gone (massive thanks btw to the fat cow who stood in his way for 30 seconds looking at him blankly as he asked repeatedly to get past so he could catch his 3 year old daughter )

by the time i came out of the changing room he'd been frantically searching for about 10 mins, the shop has 3 huge entrances out onto busy streets, non gaurded.

i ran straight to the customer information desk to get it called out (why can't men think of these things?) but just as i got there he rang from the food hall to say he'd found her wandering around in there.

10 minutes and not one person thought it was odd that a 3 year old (and a tiny 3 at that) was wandering around by herself!

I'm not going to be cynical ... I always knew I was right to like Russel Brand

It is sad tho, the state of things. I remember taking a year 1 class for PSHE once when I was on supply. The work sheet was about what to do if you got lost when in a busy place. The children were being told to ask either a policeman/woman, to go into a shop and speak to the person behind the counter, or to speak to a lady who had children with her ... and not to speak to anyone else. Not even a man with children.
