Trawlermen : is it really £8.50 a pint in Norway? (on behalf of my dh)

dh is watching trawlermen which he recorded earlier.
It was mentioned that its £8.50 a pint in Norway, he wants to know if this is true??

Any worldly wise MNer's out there?

probaby - I have heard similar things about sweden too.

well it was over £7 in Oslo 4 years ago!

But it is slightly more than a pint and we were in the really touristy bit...

I think it was a bit cheaper - maybe £5.50 or so in the 'local' we went to.

I went to Oslo for a conference once. I loved it. But nearly fecking fell over in public when I paid 5 quid for a tiny beer.

I just told DP this and he said "No wonder they have such a high suicide rate there"

yep, my dad's boat stopped off in norway, none of the crew got off but my dad did, and spent exactly that - except it wasn't for a pint - more like a small glass

pmsl, that sounds like my dad has this big old boat plus crew that he swans round in. not quite what I meant
he was working on it!

It's not that bad in Sweden - thank god

dh was in Oslo this summer - he paid £19 for two bottles of Sol. that's £16.35 a pint.

PS I am not a trawlerman, despite all appearances to the contrary...

And we moan about beer going up to £3 a pint....

Mind you, when I was 16, I did a 2 week summer school at the Paris Conservatoire and me and my mate sneaked off to this bar (which was a shithole, if I am honest) and we paid £16 for 2 beers. Shockola.

We didn't sneak out again after that

yeah reckon so DH had a bottle of beer there last summer and it was about £8 (at a pizza place)

dh is He agree with your dp Sheik, he wants to know why its so dear and are all essentials so expensive?

My DH & I have been to quite alot of countries on our travels (pre kids!) and we found Norway to be way more expensive than anywhere else we went. Recall we did a train journey from Oslo to the coast & it cost more than our return flights from the UK!
When we then went to Sweden we expected it to be same league as Norway on the cost side but it wasn't so bad (don't get me wrong, was still quite expensive). Russia was the 2nd most expensive place we have been to, we found it to be surprisingly expensive

It cost us around £7.00 a pint in Bergen, Norway, about 7 years ago. We had randomly visited a bar in the centre recommended to us by the youth hostel receptionist, as an up and coming band were playing there that night.

We missed the band as they were late coming on and we couldn't afford Norwiegan cab fares after the price of their drinks, so had to get the last bus!

When we got back to the UK, everyone was going on about the band we'd narrowly missed seeing "before they became famous" - Rokysopp.
