The other day Liz was smoking in the empty bar she and Vernon were looking at.

Probably a common-sensicle answer, but how come they can smoke on set?

Also Dot from Easties - always puffing away . . .

That did cross my mind too. I know it would be ok in the backroom parts of a bar, ie the house. Not sure how they get away with it during filming either.

www.smokefreeengland.co.uk/faq/exemptions.html Actors are exempt from the ban if it's appropriate to their storyline/performance.

But how come liz was smoking at the bar - surely thats not allowed even if it was an empty 'pub'

Deidre seems to chain smoke her way through her scenes

The Smoke-free (Exemptions and Vehicles) Regulations 2007:

"Performers

  1. Where the artistic integrity of a performance makes it appropriate for a person who is taking part in that performance to smoke, the part of the premises in which that person performs is not smoke-free in relation to that person during his performance."

Thanks for that. How come this deosn't apply to stand - up comediens and the like? They are 'performers' and it could be part of their show . .
