Luved watching tonights prog - hope they make a go of the shop. Some of the stock looked fab.

Lovely clothes, but the man was AWFUL! Hope he stays in the stock room.

Have got severe Alice-band-envy now, as the girl they used as their model had such picture perfect hair.

Just tried it with a bit of elastic, and looked like a tribal warrior. Not quite the look I was hoping for.

SilentTerror · 30/06/2008 22:31

Excellent clothes.Mary superb as always.
Thought it sweet the man from Turnbull and Asser showed up!

I need a nice picture of Mary to take to my next hairdresser visit. I love that style.

janeashersbookofspacecakes · 07/07/2008 23:47

good episode tonight, but the format's getting tired already.

MrsMacaroon · 07/07/2008 23:48

do you not think her delivery is exactly the same as Gordon Ramsey?

claricebeansmum · 07/07/2008 23:51

I thought tonights was a bit less car crash then previous episodes - woman owned boutique that had lost its way but she was reasonably intelligent, personable and eager to learn. Perhaps the more entertaining ones are when the shop owners are mad.

I don't like the way she uses "ain't" when she is trying to get a point across.

and the procession of 'statement jewelery'

OllieWollieWoo · 08/07/2008 07:25

Not as convinced that this weeks shop would make a long term go of it given her thing of being drawn to clothes she personally liked - but hope she does. Thought the idea of using local young designers was inspired tho. I always get a bit intimidated with boutique shopping!

Re Mary - she may have slightly kooky taste in tights but I love her coats - esp the chunky grey one she had on the in shopping centre! Saw on the credits that she has a personal stylist tho! Oh well!

And so the Mary backlash begins...gosh we are a fickle lot......

mistypeaks · 08/07/2008 08:02

I was loving the programme. But last night I noticed Mary does the Thing where her sentences finish like a question when they're not. I also didn't like the giggling and sneering at some of the young designers very childish and unprofessional. I also pointed out the stylist in shocked tones to my DH!!
Nah I still love it!!! She does have super hair. I loved that boutique - she really did have a lot of scope in there. I was a little disappointed that they got rid of so much of her vintage decor - it ended up being a little clinical I thought. Mind you I'd probably have gone in when it looked like a junk-shop!!

I go past this shop all the time ive never felt the pull to enter it does look a lot better for the last few weeks the press cutting has been in the window showing mary in the shop but strangely on the program last night when mary was on the other side of the street i could planely see the press cutting displayed but this was when the window display was all draped in muslin it all seemed a bit out of sync

redpanda · 08/07/2008 12:43

I find myself strangely fascinated by her.
What was the name of the store she used as an example of eccentric styling versus the importance of the product? Blue something?

missblythe · 08/07/2008 13:44

The shop at Bluebird, is on the Kings Rd

janeashersbookofspacecakes · 08/07/2008 21:08

That Selkie woman was obviously rich as and didn't need the income from that shop. The rent for it in that prime location must be extortionate.

StressTeddy · 08/07/2008 21:26

I go past it loads too readysalted, Have never been in as it really did look like a junk shop - or even worse.....something trying to be "vintage darhhhhlllling"

Will have a look next time am in town to see if it has improved

I love Mary though - think she's fab

thehairybabysmum · 08/07/2008 21:44

i go past it lots too and like ready salted only noticed it standing out for the first time a couple of months ago...assume this was after Mary.

Went past today and it looked quite busy.

I also need a pic for my hairdresser!

I do find it odd that i wasnt stopped in the street by Mary as a stylish 30 something who's views were needed for the programme !!

StressTeddy · 08/07/2008 21:48

hairy - I thought that too. We must have been too busy buying deliciously, stylish things on another street!!

janeashersbookofspacecakes · 08/07/2008 22:53

I didn't think the women she chose reprsented the ethos of the shop before or after the makeover.
I love Mary, she's a natural on the telly. Why've we not seen her before?

JudyJones · 09/07/2008 00:08

Agree with JaneAsher that the format feels tired already, also REALLY went off it the other week when she went to the mensweat store in Manchester. She was so sneering about the fact that "old codgers" shopped there. Horrible.
