Who loves Modern Family, The Middle & Young Sheldon. We are on the 3rd watch of the Middle which I don’t mind as it’s brilliant but looking for inspiration.

If cosy crime is your thing, Ludwig and The Marlow Murder Club are good.

OneMintWasp · 02/10/2026 15:45

My daughter is currently loving Ghosts and loves that its the Horrible Histories cast. Some slightly adult themes but mild for 12 year olds compared to what they pick up in secondary school. Also loved classic films like Apollo 13, Back to the future etc

Spilltheteaagain · 02/10/2026 15:48

Oh, good idea about classic films. We watched Legally Blonde recently.

OneMintWasp · 02/10/2026 15:55

Ludwigs a good one too! Will add Legally Blonde to our list.

hby9628 · 02/10/2026 17:08

Legally Blonde is a good shout. She enjoys pitch perfect & mean girls.

Definitely Ghosts. And on a related note: Yonderland. We have recently rewatched Sherlock on iPlayer and are looking forward to Celebrity Traitors. We enjoyed Small Prophets and Mortimer and Whitehouse.

AutumnAllTheWay · 02/10/2026 18:26

Small prophets

bobbieflekman · 02/10/2026 18:44

Brooklyn Nine Nine

KindlySurfiingPlatypus · 02/10/2026 18:46

All of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
There are admittedly some weak episodes but taken as a whole it's the best preparation for how to survive teenage years you can give to your 12yo dd.

hby9628 · 02/10/2026 18:57

Oh these are great thanks. Some I’ve not heard of so will look them up

DS (12) is currently enjoying:
Bake off
Race Across the World
Traitors (avoid Irish ones as LOTS of swearing)

Awrite · 02/10/2026 19:09

Definitely Gilmore Girls. Treasure every moment.

hby9628 · 03/10/2026 15:15

Thanks for these. Someone recommended Ted Lasso to me last night too so plenty to try now

OP posts:
cheapskatemum · 03/10/2026 15:38

Films:
Nativity
Nativity 2
High School Musical (all)
the early Beethoven films, certainly 1,2 & 3.

shellyleppard · 03/10/2026 18:34

Have you watched stuart fails to save the universe on Amazon?? Its a spin off from the big bang theory but very funny.

hby9628 · 03/10/2026 18:57

@shellyleppardno I’ve not heard of that. Sounds a good option

OP posts:
shellyleppard · 03/10/2026 18:59

@hby9628 if you like the big bang theory you might enjoy it. Bit risqué in places but very good story line. Series one finished last week.... can't wait for series 2!
The middle is really funny

There is a lot of swearing in Ted Lasso. I love it completely but not sure for 12.

Dizzierblonde · 03/10/2026 19:36

The Good Place (or any Mike Shur comedy series)
Veronica Mars
Buffy
Ugly Betty
Jane the Virgin

films like Clueless, Hunger Games, Little Women, Inside Out, Addams Family (the 90's ones ONLY).

Davros · 03/10/2026 21:47

As Creatures Great and Small. Plenty of series

FusionChefGeoff · 03/10/2026 23:02

Just finished series 1 of Locke and Key on Netflix. It’s brilliant!!!! Fantasy / mystery / teen coming of age. Grown up enough without being inappropriate. DD is just 12
