Re social class, yes, NL is the daughter of a life peer and former Chancellor of the Exchequer and a Lyons Corner House heiress, and married to Saatchi, but her first husband was from an ordinary enough middle-class background, left school at 16 after failing his O-levels and somehow ended up training as a teacher and teaching for a while before moving into journalism. So I don't think PH's social class would rule him out, if both he and NL were single and looking for a relationship. The fact that he's a bit of an oaf probably would, though.

I love the idea of Noel and Nigella. Their parties would be an absolute blast.

I definitely don’t see her with Paul Hollywood - not her type. Agree she looked fabulous, loved her navy jumpsuit.

I thought she came across as almost managing to keep her distain for him controlled - very off chemistry between the two of them.

I vaguely assumed that would have fed into offering NL the GBBO gig, that they wanted a presenter who was going to dislodge PH's sense of himself as the main judge, and also dislodge the prestige of the Hollywood Handshake. So that a bit of well-controlled disdain would add edge?

Yes and that it would be very satisfying for those of us who watch the show despite his smugness.

I think that was a joke.

They are two very attractive and knowledgeable adults working together and in the public eye, one is already well known for infidelity, the other is new to a well established team, speculation is inevitable.

This is an incredibly weird take to me, so prurient it's made me feel a bit sick.

The world is full of very attractive men and women, the thought that they can't work together without ripping each others clothes off is laughable.

Nigella has dubious taste in men. Neither of her husbands were much to look at and the last one was abusive by all accounts. Wouldn’t surprise me if she had a girlfriend.

So now we're rating John Diamond, a good writer who dealt with guts and honesty with a particularly hideous terminal cancer that involved him literally losing his tongue, and who wrote about it till the very end, on his looks? Are we rating him on his looks before or after he developed terminal cancer?

Absolutely agree @Velveting . I remember reading John Diamond. He was such a talent and seemed like a wonderful man. His writing on his illness was brave and really extraordinary at the time. To go through such loss in such a public way must have been awful.

I also remember reading his articles about his cancer.
By the end, he couldn't speak and wrote down his words. He apparently made it plain he didn't want any more resuscitation attempts and when his doctor told him they needed to take him to theatre to "tie off the bleeding point", he replied with "What's the bleeding point?".
He said it was ironic that he couldn't eat any of the recipes that Nigella was testing for her first cookbook "How to Eat". I think she wrote that as a way of keeping the family finances going when John was too ill to eat.

I checked a couple of the things I've said here - just goes to show how rubbish AI is: it brought up a picture of A.A. Gill!
Admittedly, another Times journalist who died of cancer but they seemed very different people from their writing.

And he died during the filming of Nigella Bites, and she took a fortnight out and then just kept going, which must have been incredibly hard, when you’re trying to project a cheerful, flirty, relatable image to camera when your heart is breaking and you’re trying to keep it together for the children..

And that’s after losing her DM and Ds too, all to cancer.

I had a relative with a similar cancer to John Diamond so I followed his story with both interest and sadness. He wasn’t traditionally good looking but he and Nigella seemed a great couple and it feels like she’s never met anyone to match up to him.

I don’t watch Bake Off any more as it annoys me but I hope Nigella takes PH down a peg or two, he’s so full of himself with his bloody handshakes, nobody knew who he was before Bake Off whereas all of the female judges have been successful, talented and much better known.

I believe her first husband was the love of her life, she said she felt safe when she was with him....a beautiful thing to say.
I didn't know that much about her, but the more I read, the more I admire her.

The other thing I remember reading about them was that they had an anniversary party and one of the guests pointed out is wasn't the date they got married, to which they answered "It's not the anniversary of our wedding...".
There was obviously a great attraction between them.
