Has anyone watched Sharon Horgan new series Youth. Just 2 episodes available but it’s very funny. Love anything she does - except, funnily enough, Bad Sisters

Thought it was dire!

Krispycrem · 25/09/2026 07:30

Oh no @Sidebeforeself . Well I suppose it may not be everyone’s cup of tea

It’s a little bit cringe thigh she is funny . Why is the son character so unlikeable ?

Krispycrem · 25/09/2026 08:03

I think he’s meant to be portraying a particularly troubled 18 year old - he’s not meant to be nice

He is Cillian Murphy's son, absolute double of him in looks and mannerisms.

Where can people watch it?

Loving it so far but I'm going to wait until all the episodes are out and then binge watch. I can't be doing with this waiting!

Love pretty much everything Sharon does and Aran Murphy is fantastic. Just the right amount of pain in the arse and vulnerable to make it a very believable performance.

Sharon had said to view it as a bit of a loose trilogy with Pulling (30s), Catastrophe (40s) and now Youth (50s). Would love to rewatch Pulling because I only vaguely remember it but can't find it on streaming.

I’m looking forward to this. I love Sharon Horgan.

jonnybriggswasgreat · 25/09/2026 08:59

It’s OK, quite predictable but watchable. Sharon Horgan playing herself or a similar version of herself for the umpteenth time - yawn.

Loving Rupert Friend in this.

Sidebeforeself · 25/09/2026 09:55

I didnt hear a single funny line. And I know it’s about ageing but I actually found it very ageist ( admittedly I only watched the first episode). Especially as I was watching it with my 67 year old husband!
The boys behaviour was written so badly especially the scene with the cheese.

AlwaysExtraHot · 25/09/2026 09:55

I loved Bad Sisters (first season; second seemed to be struggling to know what it was for) but don't otherwise know her work. I get the impression things like Pulling are more overtly funny; is that true? Is Youth more like BS, or more like the 'funnier' ones?

Cantonet · 25/09/2026 16:51

The son was totally wild in the first episode, but the subsequent behaviour is very plausible for a quirky kid.
I know .... I have one.

I'm watching it on Now.

Think you can also watch on Prime/HBO Max with a subscription.

MyCatHatesSandals · 28/09/2026 13:55

I wanted to like it, but I don't. She's a bloody car crash and I find her childish decision-making really quite stressful to watch.

Cheetoo · 28/09/2026 20:11

i just watched episode 3... i am the same age, with elderly parents and teenage kids and think it's very funny.

the 18 year old son is very believeable as a difficult teen...

Hotmess101 · 28/09/2026 22:09

The son character is just so obnoxious and awful that I can’t bring myself to care about any scenes with him in. Still managed to watch three episodes on the trot, as mediocre Sharon Horgan is still 10x more enjoyable than most programmes!

TubeScreamer · 28/09/2026 22:40

really cringey and just generally quite shit. Watched one episode and won’t be watching any of the others..

disppointed as I’d seen glowing reviews and I’ve liked Sharon Horgan in other things

IDontCareWhatMyUsernameIs · 29/09/2026 09:29

I turned it off after the third time I saw her pants.

It was just so…demeaning of women. Such an old trope now. Oh look there’s a middle aged woman, haha isn’t she chaotic, look how she can’t handle her own life and makes stupid decisions. Oh and look, there’s her pants round her ankles. Again.

Fuck off. Maybe at one point she hit a zeitgeist but I think now it just feels very old.

Krispycrem · 29/09/2026 10:17

@IDontCareWhatMyUsernameIs Maybe it’s more about Sharon showing what good shape she is in 😃

I watched the 3rd episode and am less enamoured.

IDontCareWhatMyUsernameIs · 29/09/2026 11:20

I mean, she might be in good shape and all 🤷🏻‍♀️ but the scene where she was on the bed crying and touching the guys dick was genuinely dreadful.

Are we meant to think she’s all cool and empowered? Because it felt like the opposite. I’m a bit sick of her ‘oh aren’t us women so scatty and silly’ shtick.

Rollergirl11 · 30/09/2026 23:18

I must admit I did roll my eyes at seeing Sharon Horgan’s knickers round her ankles having a piss for the 3rd time. We know you’ve got good legs, love. You don’t have to ram it in our faces.

Also found it very hard to believe that a single mum in her 50’s would have the opportunity (or the inclination) to have sexual encounters with 3 different men in such a short space of time. Can’t imagine many menopausal women are that in to hook-ups.

Deadringer · 30/09/2026 23:24

I love Sharon Horgan, I first saw her in Catastrophe which was hilarious imo. This series certainly isn't the best thing she has done but it's not bad. The stroppy son drives me mad, he is a real arsehole.

SnowFrogJelly · 01/10/2026 00:24

The son is particularly annoying.. not sure what I think of the series yet

pinkishtongue · 01/10/2026 09:30

I bet she’s on here 😂

IDontCareWhatMyUsernameIs · 01/10/2026 14:25

In that case: any chance of writing a different type of character, love?

VerifyYouAreHuman · Yesterday 20:14

I can't help but think this sort of comedy like, Drifters, Catastrophe, and Fleabag, written by middle class women who are (wisely) more voyeurs than participators, though entertaining, is a bit bogus.
