Cancelling Netflix for a while, which other streaming services are worthwhile?

Netflix are putting their prices up. It's not a huge increase but we should probably have a break.
We're going to cancel for a couple of months and see what other services are out there.
Anything good on any of the others?

Apple TV!!!! So many good shows. Start with Ted Lasso.

Apple TV, there may be a free trial for it, usually offered with some phone or broadband services

I like HBO max.We dip in and out of Apple, mainly renew for new series of Slow Horses. Disney Plus have some good bits on too. We usually rotate our screening services, though we keep Netflix - I might start putting it on the rotation now.

What I would probably do is rotate them all and have 1-2 months of them in turn, making use of any offers that appear. The only one that never seems to have offers is Netflix. Disney sometimes has offers, usually for the ads tier and you can also use Tesco Clubcard points for it.

Now is my favourite - mostly excellent quality shows from HBO and HBO Max.

This doesnt answer the question but I think we have Netflix incorporated with our (admittedly expensive) sky bundle. Could it be worth asking if theres a deal when you next renew? (If you have sky of course)

I include tv licence in my rotation. It’s the most expensive of them all. Not on DD. So when the year runs out, I only buy a new license again once there’s something I want to watch.

Summerhillsquare · 22/09/2026 07:51

There is just SO much on iPlayer and C4, I am never short of interesting watches.

Weekmindedfool · 22/09/2026 07:54

They all have good shows and their own movies. No one is better than the other. Pay for 1 a month and then rotate them.

Sparrowsandbudgies · 22/09/2026 08:52

I think it just depends what you personally like. We had Apple TV for a while but thought it was the worst of the bunch (except widows bay) so we’ve cancelled that. We have Disneyplus, Prime, Netflix and Now (!) - ridiculous really, but they all have programmes we want to watch.

Now and Apple are the best in my opinion.
Slow Horses and The Morning Show on Apple are both excellent and have several series available.
The Pitt on Now is also brilliant.

If you don't mind subtitles there is lots of good stuff on the world drama section of All 4, and it's free.

Ilovemyshed · 24/09/2026 23:09

Paramount has some good stuff, as does C5.

Thepossibility · 25/09/2026 00:23

We watch HBO way more than Netflix. More quality less trashy filler which most of the steaming platforms seem to have.

ImogenBrocklehurst · 25/09/2026 00:28

Apple! Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, Bad Sisters, Shrinking, Star City, Widow’s Bay off the top of my head.

Sesma · 25/09/2026 07:18

I looked at the top ten on Netflix yesterday and most of it looked subtitled, it's usually that or true life crime, occasionally there is a proper series on.
