M&S wtf??

Don’t really watch tv much, decided to chill out a bit this afternoon turned on tv and an advert for M&S came on.
Loads of women in a library, one states they like another’s coat decides to steal it and walk off. Owner chases and calls out that’s mine! They get told off by Gillian Anderson. She is aware the woman took the coat and says to her “Love That”.
Is M&S saying to people if you want it just take it?
The current state of the country with shoplifting at an all time high why would encourage the selfishness that I now see everywhere these days?

M&S adverts have been really poor lately. The two recent food ones, pork and cherries, were so dreary - how could they imagine anyone would be interested in farmers chuntering on about their produce for that length of time?

I've seen that advert and thought the same - WTF?

SO if I go into an M&S store and see something I like I can just take it and they will say "love that?". Hmm thought not.

Just watched it on YouTube as hadn't clocked it on TV yet - WTF?

Pork and cherries you say? Is that a euphemism? Because Facebook is showing me lots of their adverts for mens leisure wear that seems unnecessarily tight around the genitalia.

Well, it’s got you talking about it and mentioning it to other people so the advert seems quite successful! Adverts with a bit of a shock factor usually do quite well.

M&S ads are very dodgy at the moment, and to everyone who suggests I must have an equally dodgy search history, I really don't. But I still got a crotchless thong from them last month 😵‍💫

Controversial advert? It would make me less likely to buy something from them. Just because it’s talked about doesn’t make it a positive thing. I don’t think people realise how bad the theft from retail stores really is. They also don’t understand how much that affects what they pay for goods. M&S are a major brand. I feel the advert is in poor taste.

Oh my god it isn’t that deep and certainly not controversial. The message is ‘our clothes are so bang on trend you will covet what other women are wearing and want to steal her style’ and as for the literal stealing, who hasn’t ‘stolen’ their sister’s top or mum’s vintage belt, the ad is suggesting their latest styles are so good you will want to swipe them, with a bit of a wink as it’s not serious. It also brings in the common compliment ‘love that dress, love that jacket/insert other item’ as the follow up question is usually, ‘where did you get it from?’ the answer being ‘marks and Spencer’. Just a quite run of the mill advert! It isn’t promoting shop lifting ffs
