I only heard about this recently and as a longterm Adrian fan I am torn between excitement and dread in case it has been buggered up.

I was the same age as Adrian when the diary was first published and it was such a clever and witty commentary on life at the time.

I'm so looking forward to my forward to this. I bought the original series on DVD a while back and really need to dig out the DVD player to watch it before the new one comes out.

Adrian Mole was the first thing I enjoyed reading when my English became good enough to understand books in English. I completely fell in love with it...

Presuming they're setting it in Leicester as per the books so will they get the accent right ? Last time they filmed it they sounded Brummie! East Midlands accent is very different. Sue Townsend would be turning in her grave.

From the photo I’d say period. Loved the books and the first tv series Hope this is good.

I loved her other books too but Moley is always the best.

Sue Townsend could sum up the ridiculous and puncture pretension with just a few words.

One of my very favourite bits is when Adrian and his parents are having tea and wondering (as most of us had never heard of the place) where the Falklands are.

This being in the wake of Maggie declaring war and almost unanimous joyful indignation at the prospect.

On digging out the family atlas the islands were finally found “under a crumb of fruitcake”.

It just takes you back to your childhood of life before the internet, breakfast telly, 80’s xmas’s - I love it.

The only worry with the BBC is that they’ll update it to be “Politically Correct”. If they do that, it’ll be ruined.

I'll be furious if they do.

It is of its time, and I think should not be remade. It was much more suited to reading and radio than tv anyway.

Sad that Sue Townsend died a few years ago as the later books were a lovely criticism of the Blair government, and the characters would have had a field day with more recent governments. Rosie Mole as an eco-warrior perhaps.

Filmed in Hartlepool and Sunderland. They'd better be pretending it's Leicester, and not changing the accents etc!
