Has anyone watched this?

It's really good. Although always sounds a bit strange to say that about a real life case

I hadn't followed the case at the time so I didn't know any of the details either

I followed the original case, read 'Death in Perugia' and watched this show.

I think there is more that we don't know but I do think it was 'trial by media'; the investigation wasn't conducted properly and Amanda's eccentric behaviour in court did not help her case.

I would have more respect for her if she had remained out of the spotlight in recent years. It seems she wants publicity and stardom from the tragic death of Meredith.

Interesting, What do you mean when you say there's more that we don't know?

Yeah she seems addicted to the spotlight atp.

No I haven’t watched it and probably won’t. I recall watching some documentaries several years ago so I’m quite familiar with the details.

I watched it and found myself feeling so sorry for her and bad for falling hook, line and sinker for the terrible propaganda, courtesy of the media. I actually cried 😳.

Obviously, this was told from Amanda's perspective and although I feel absolutely terrible for poor Meredith and her family for the constant revisiting of this awful tragedy, I also feel like Amanda has the right to do what she's doing to heel, because the public are never going to be fully on her side and her life is essentially ruined anyway.
Harsh take, but the actual murderer, the media and the prosecution did harm to Meredith and her family, not Amanda.

I watched it a few weeks ago and with my DC now young adults heading off to Europe on summer holidays, it absolutely terrified me. How on earth did a young girl, who didn’t speak the local language find herself in that position in a European country?

I was thinking what a beautiful country Italy is, so rich in culture and history - it's such a shame I'll never step foot in the place because what fresh fck is up with their judiciary system 😱 and how is it so alien to ours , in a European country?

Meredusoleil · 01/09/2026 21:12

I watched this awhile ago and read her book and watched other documentaries.

Have to agree with all other pp. Changed my mind about her and scarred by the total incompetence of the Italian police.

Summerlovingtheraspberries · 20/09/2026 11:53

I haven’t watched this but remember the case at the time.
Wasn’t a man convicted of her murder? I’m sure Amanda was made a scapegoat because she was female and a foreigner.

Do you ever holiday in Greece, Spain, Portugal or France? If you ended up in the dock in any of those countries you would find it equally alien. And as for Turkey, enough said! But millions and millions of British tourists have flooded into those countries for at least the last 50 years, and I don't see many of them ending up in court let alone prison. And I can assure you that you'll be just as safe in Italy.

I know it sounded like I was singling out Italy, but if truth be told, getting arrested in any foreign country scares me - some obviously more than others.

I was just pointing out that you wouldn't necessarily know how much serious peril you would be in , compared to your own country, where you understand due process, the language and your rights.

Of course. Nobody sane would want to get into serious trouble abroad. Even in America or Australia where the language barrier wouldn't be a particular problem. If you're going to be implicated in a high profile murder case you're probably better off in Britain!

I'm more scared of the US than Italy, because of their state versus federal law, the death penalty, their current administration and the insane 100+ year sentences.
But as much as I do indeed share a common language with the US, I did mention in my original post about Italy being part of Europe and the assumption that our laws would be more aligned. I was wrong, I admit that.

I absolutely agree with you. The thought of being arrested in the States is a terrifying prospect. And foreigners do seem to fall foul of the system there too frequently.

Yes I watched it. I do remember the case but not many details, but I knew Amanda had been completely cleared eventually.
She (and Raffaele) were treated appallingly, there was not even a scrap of evidence against them.
