Catherine Cookson’s The Man Who Cried

Watched it this afternoon on some random channel. It’s a TV film from 1993 based on a Catherine Cookson novel.

Even Ciaran Hinds can’t disguise the fact that main character is one giant Cocklodger. What a twerp.

I’ve not read the book, but the film didn’t do the character any favours. How did he get so many women after him, and why on earth did the second wife take him back in at the end. Surely she could have gone for custody of the baby, as the child’s aunt, when it’s father has a history of removing a child from it’s mother and having been in prison.
I do like watching these old programmes, you get to see actors like Sean Bean from years ago, but that’s one I didn’t enjoy the story of.

I agree! How did he get so many women falling over themselves for him and why did the second “wife” take him back after a) they weren’t married and b) the town would have been agog at the scandal.
