I usually love this programme but it's totally ruined by the overpowering background music.

So glad this has returned. I love David Olusoga and the series. Pleased to see Dr Kate Lister featuring in one of the episodes too.

I find this programme so totally absorbing I've never noticed background music. Maybe I'll start noticing it now ....😕

I never noticed the background music.
David Olusoga has a very clear speaking voice which helps.
It is very annoying in many dramas especially on the BBC when the actors are mumbling.
I did enjoy the programme so interesting. I was looking up Sir John Steell, his brother Gourlay Steell was a famous animal painter, he became the official painter of animals for Queen Victoria.

It seems like only me noticed the music. I was feeling a bit grumpy anyway so it's probably me !

David has such a relaxing voice. I was disappointed to not enjoy his podcast.

JaneJeffer · 15/08/2026 20:04

He was such a disappointment on The Traitors

I love listening to him, absolutely loved his podcast too.

I hate his stilted delivery. Two words, inhale, three words, inhale. He's not like it when talking face to face, like with the Oxford University historian. I'm glad I'm not one of his students, listening to lectures from him.

I was so gripped I didn't notice any music.
Edinburgh looked beautiful.
