Love Island
Married at First Sight
Anything with Ant and Dec presenting.

DonttouchthatLarry · 22/06/2026 12:33

Mrs Brown’s Boys

Anything like Love Island

Meadowfinch · 22/06/2026 12:34

All reality TV.

Speckson · 22/06/2026 12:35

Mrs Brown’s Boys

Anything like Love Island

Ditto.
Also sport, but that's boredom rather than active dislike.

Mrs Brown’s Boys

Anything like Love Island

These! Plus the Apprentice. Excruciating!

BauhausOfEliott · 22/06/2026 12:44

Pretty much anything I haven't specifically sat down to watch?

Myblueclematis · 22/06/2026 12:44

Most of the reality stuff, house doing up stuff, anything along the lines of Bargain Hunt although I don't mind Antiques Roadshow.

Tennis, most sport although I do watch big football matches with England.

Anything at all with Alexander Armstrong on, in particular Pointless, anything with Susan Calman and also Jane McDonald presenting.

ScottBakula · 22/06/2026 12:46

All soaps
All reality TV, be it singing, baking , sewing, house move / renovation and such like
All sport
95% of quiz / panel shows
Gardening
That's the reason I don't own a tv!

Nourishinghandcream · 22/06/2026 12:47

It is not so much turning the TV off but the fact that we won't even turn the TV on unless there is something we want to watch (we flick through the TV guide first).
Anything sport related, reality, soap, dark drama or gritty. Endless mindless chatter such as breakfast TV, Loose Women, Lorraine etc. All those can take a hike.

In fact, there is very little live TV that either of us have any interest in and we prefer the likes of U&Yesterday and our hugle collection of DVD's.

OutOfApricots · 22/06/2026 12:47

Any reality tv with pouting airheads in it.

Tonissister · 22/06/2026 12:53

Nearly all reality shows, especially of the MAFS, MIC, TOWIE type. Though I do quite like First Dates.

Nearly all sport. Except athletics, cycling and boat race. I loathe football and tennis on TV.

But I will watch almost any non-soap drama. Except the really formulaic Harlen Coben suspense nonsense.

Exactly this! I don’t really turn things off because my tv is only on for programmes I’ve switched on for. Occasionally I’ll try something and find it’s not for me despite being objectively the kind of thing I usually like (like the godawful Ludwig), but I’d never just let the tv roll on yo show after show by itself.

Songs of praise

Purplebunnie · 22/06/2026 13:14

TV remains switched off during the day until the news. I may switch it back on if I remember for Escape to the Country but not bothered if I miss it. Sometimes switch it on to watch youtube

Saturday night TV is a desert. Wall to wall game shows on BBC1 followed by Casualty

I don't watch any of the soaps, reality TV. The BBC want to cut money - get rid of Mrs Browns Boys it's the most dire tripe I have ever had the misfortune to have seen - once.

I like some athletics, adore rugby, anything that has a 4x4 relay in it. Hate football, horse racing, golf - would rather watch paint dry

So there is really very little I watch and a lot of what I do watch is on streaming services but even that is getting boring

Lellamir · 22/06/2026 15:59

All soaps. In fact, if one accidentally comes on, I panic at the sound of the theme tune, in case any passers by think I'm into it!

All reality TV, unless it's interior design/renovations or the Sewing Bee. Do they count?

I love the Chase, but can't cope with any of the others.
If you have zero general knowledge, why apply to go on a quiz show?
My brother, whose health means he has spells of not working, watches them all, and messages me, apoplectic at some of the contestants 😆

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/06/2026 19:23

All of the above plus Jeremy Clarkson. I really only turn the TV on if I want to watch something particular.

Ha ha, me too!

Lottapianos · 24/06/2026 10:18

Sentimental sob story stuff like The Repair Shop, The Assembly, Britain's Got Talent and The Piano. We often see clips on Gogglebox and roll our eyes. It's just so naff!

Almost all sport

Haven't sat down and watched the news in years - too bloody depressing

Buscobel · 24/06/2026 10:35

It’s easier to say what programmes we turn on for.

i agree with binning reality TV, apart from RATW.
I agree with quiz shows and game shows.
I agree with binning anything with Alexander Armstrong, Ant & Dec and Richard Osman.
Sport
Soaps

I cannot understand why Mrs Brown’s Boys is still broadcast, since I’ve never heard of anyone who watches or likes it.

I agree that Saturday night is a TV desert and has been for ages.

LathkillDale · 24/06/2026 10:59

Any sport (although DH watches practically anything)
Any soap opera
Anything like Love Island and most reality shows except RATW, Sort Your House Out and SAS Who Dares Wins
Any design show except Amanda Holden and Alan Carr doing houses up in S Europe
Any quiz show except University Challenge or Have I Got News For You (DH watches everything)

I mainly watch drama series, especially crime; history programs, films and the news. I was brought up to switch the TV on only to watch something specific, whereas DH wants it on all the time as moving wallpaper!

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 24/06/2026 11:02

Love horse racing, hate Mrs Browns Boys.

whippersnapper55 · 24/06/2026 11:04

Mrs Brown's Boys
Anything with Jeremy Clarkson
Ditto Vernon Kay

Nincompoo · 24/06/2026 11:11

Sport
anything to do with celebrities
Reality Tv
Soaps
Gameshows

I pretty much only watch documentaries and drama, with a smattering of comedy

90% of my viewing is done on YouTube.

Purplebunnie · 24/06/2026 13:39

@Lellamir ha ha we are the same, dive for the remote and then congratulate ourselves if we've managed not to hear the first note

DontGoChasinWaterfalls · 24/06/2026 13:42
