Hi ,
I only recently got into DiP , so not watched all of the earlier ones .
I think I caught up with series 1 and maybe 2.

I need to download some episodes for a long train journey.

Which series /detective did most people say was the best ?

I know it is subjective...but I can't download them all !

Thanks .

I like Humphrey & Richard the best.

There are 15 seasons and several spin offs so pace yourself

Richard was my absolute favourite followed Humphrey, the others were fine just not as engaging.

Neville grew on me

Neville grew on me

Neville grew on me too - like a fungus 😂

Every week DD & I would pray he'd be sent away again.

Yes he's by far my least favourite.

The first episode i ever saw, and remains my favourite, is series 4 episode 4 Until Death Do You Part, with Kris Marshall. He's my fave detective as well

bizzey · Yesterday 17:22

Thanks everyone!😁.

Kris Marshall is sounding positive!

I will download his episodes.

I can normally while away many an hour watching TV on my sofa or bed 3 hours is nothing there ...but for some reason....3 1/2 hours on a train feels like a life time 😂😂

Another vote for Richard - my absolute favourite. Followed by Humphrey

Lovemycat2023 · Yesterday 21:52

In terms of the spin offs I like the Australian one Return to Paradise (which isn’t actually a spin off as it has no real links!) the best.

I like Beyond Paradise, it's a sweet, gentle detective show and has Humprey in it

it is a nice show, but I think we all know Kelby is the real brains of the show

Ben Miller and Kris Marshall (Ben Stiller is a US actor).

Ben & Kris are my favourites with Don Gilet a close runner, I think his character breathed fresh life into the show.
I found Ralf Little's character annoying & unlikable.
Ardal O'Hanlon was ok at the start but as time went on I got the impression he was just reading the lines.
Don Warrington always steels every scene he is in.

Beyond Paradise is a cleaver piece of writing.
Excellent cast, wonderful filming locations and some great storylines. I especially like the way Selwyn as been brought in twice now, a really good link to the original show.

Yes, I like Don Gilet. He seems much more of a clued up character. He's a really good actor in it too. Haven't seen him in anything else. I was surprised to see he's well into his 50s

I’m warming to Don Gilet now his character seems to have settled in a bit more Yy re Ardal O’Hanlon towards the end felt as though he was going through the motions was a nice touch with the Australian version that he appeared as Mackenzies boss also really like Beyond Paradise well acted with great characters & beautiful scenery.

SparkyBlue · Today 09:34

Ralf Littles character just doesn’t work at all

TorroFerney · Today 10:03

I think it’s the rest of the team (ie which actors are the sergeant and uniformed officers at the time) as well.

it was spikier at the beginning with Richard being xenephobic towards the French and I suppose that’s a bit like the current series where he can’t stand how slow island life is.

I struggle with Florence, she seemed a bit wet after camile and coupled with wet Neville didn’t like that but I don’t really want back stories and romance - although the bully that Richard dealt with I liked. I didn’t mind neville before that, the love interest spoils it.

i was watching one last night and realised that the murder victim is now the female officer in return to paradise . Which I know they do a lot as both Ralph little and Don gilet were in previous death in paradise episodes.

Theresalittlebitofwitchinyou · Today 10:37

I have to say I loved Humphrey most then Jack, then Neville was not great first couple of episodes but grew on me and same with Mervyn.

The only thing that ai recall Don.G being in is an episode of Shakespeare & Hathaway where he played a hair stylist (a very under-rated, light-hearted detective show).
Sure he is an experienced actor but nothing else springs to mind at the mo.🤔

Don G played Lucas in Eastenders 2008-2010 - he was the father of Denise's kids who she had disappeared from. He found her & there was much drama. he was a proper psycho serial killer.
